Whoever sits on the throne is also the head of the Church of England. Charles could be king and Camilla could be Princess Consort but if they follow the rules - then no Charles cannot be King. His marriage was a civil marriage as for he was not even allowed to marry in the Church. Unless they make a special provision for him, which I do believe they will like they did for his marriage, he cannot be king.
It is quoted and stated:
The Prince of Wales, who will become Supreme Governor of the Church of England when he is crowned king, has previously said he would like to be sworn as the 'Defender of Faith', meaning not any particular faith, taking into account the numerous religious groups represented in Great Britain.
(note: NOT Defender of THE Faith).
There is nothing in the British Constitution that prevents someone from marrying a divorcee. It is rather the religion of the Church of England that does not approve of it.
Henry VIII was the first divorced man to be king. Charles will be the first king married to a divorcee. King Edward VIII had to abdicate the throne to marry Mrs. Wallis Simpson because of public and religious outcries.

I think he will succeed his mother when the time comes. Times have changed a lot since the 1930s. In the 30s, divorce was considered a shocking thing, and divorced people were not received at court, so the idea of the future king marrying a twice divorced woman horrified most people. But nowadays, so many people get divorced, I think it would be absurd if Charles was prevented from becoming King because he is divorced, and married to a divorcee. Three of the Queen's four children have been divorced, and I expect that by now she is resigned to the changing times. I honestlyc annot imagine that Charles will be excluded from the succession.

There is absolutely nothing to stop Charles becoming King apart from an Act of Parliament. Failing that, he will succeed his mother. Britain does not recognise morganatic marriges so if Charles becomes King, Camilla will be crowned Queen just as Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon became the Duchess of York on marrying her husband and then Queen when George VI was crowned. Both Charles's first wife and Camilla's first husband are dead so if they wanted to, they could remarry with the blessing of the Church of England even though they are legally married already.
If I have to have a monarch, it might as well be Charles after Betty's gone and I have no objection to Queen Camilla.

Yes prince charles can be king, by reason of his approval by the state to marry Camilla, I do not know that she is Catholic, so that is resolved. Charles' wife is dead, and I believe Mr. Parker-Bowles is too, I may be wrong. In any case, since Charles' wife is now dead, and Camilla is of his faith, presumably, and long divorced, and the fact that they were given official sanction to marry, though, if you recall, they were not allowed to marry in the Church of England, only exchange a few promises to the state and church and to "ask for forgiveness" before the church, God and the subjects . The queen was not at all happy with the situation, but I guess she is like any other mother, who naturally wants her son to be happy and Charles, it is widely known, has always loved Camilla, even keeping her as his mistress while married to Diana all those years. Fact is, I do not think for one minute, he ever really loved Diana at all, just married her out of duty to the country to produce an heir who could ascend the throne one day. Probably, if he could have had his way, in the beginning, he never would have married Diana. It is my understanding they were pretty much promised to each other at Diana's birth by agreement with the royals and Diana's parents, that if Charles did not find a wife on his own, then he would marry Diana. Remember, her pedigree is unchallenged, she is descended from royal blood,to the point where she could actually be the Princess of Wales, and be a true royal princess, thoroughbred, if you will. Camilla cannot claim that. That is why she is not Princess of Wales. Prince Charles will be kiing if he so chooses, because now , by legal and church meandering to get around the normal rules, a precedent, if you will, he is free to sit on the throne, and Camilla will be queeen, if Charles gives her the title, which I presume, he will do.

Charles is Prince of Wales, the legal heir to the throne. Only an Act of Parliament could change that. Camilla is not Catholic, and there is nothing legal to prevent him marrying a divorcee.

This question has been asked about 15 times today. The answer is that time has changed and the divorce rule is not so significant anymore. Prince Charles will become King George VII (what he says he wants to be called) and Camilla will be Camilla, the Queen Consort or Lady Camilla. If Camilla was not divorced to begin with, she would have been Queen Camilla.

There is no law against British royalty marrying a divorcee. He can be king as long as he does not become a Catholic.
You should go read the Act of Settlement 1701.

The Church of England has changed its stance on divorce because time have changed;they do not exactly condone it,bu they did BLESS the union of Charles and Camilla. Charles will be king, unless he dies before his mother.
I am taken aback by so many wrong answers posted here! The Prince of Wales is in line to the throne.William will become king only after his father dies. Camilla will become Queen Consort automatically;it's just a game of semantics they are playing and doesn't matter if they say "Princess Consort" when the reality is your husband is king and you become queen consort.Charles and Camilla are not trying to step on Diana's memory by taking titles,i.e. Princess of Wales, that she would have assumed;and, it's a person's right to choose the honorific that they are known by.

On Prince Charles's marriage, he indicated that Camilla Parker-Bowles will not carry the title of Queen, if he comes to the throne, but that of 'Princess Consort' instead.
