DO NOT e-mail or text message your boss with your resignation. If you want to write a letter of resignation, that's fine. However, putting something in writing that states the date you'll be leaving is important. You don't need to give any reasons because it really isn't anyone's business. You should face your boss, though, and be professional about it.

First remove all personal items from your workplace so you don't have to do it after. Then say to the boss we need to talk and sit in their office with the door shut. Explain that you are giving your two week notice because you are moving or taking a new job or what ever your reason. If it was to take more money somewhere else they may offer to match the new offer, be prepared for that and decide if you would stay. Also be prepared for them to say you can leave now they don't want you the next two weeks so leave now. Having your desk clear and your personal stuff out of your desk and computer will mean you can simply leave the building. Don't say anything to anyone on the way out the door leave with no fuss.

You didn't provide many details. If possible, give your boss a two week notice. Tell them when your last day will be and thank them for the opportunity to work there. If asked why, tell them you want to pursue other interests. Leave on good terms, even if you think the boss is a jerk and the job really sucked. You have nothing to gain by p!ssing them off.

Set up a meeting. Start with telling him/her what a great experience you've had here, how much you've enjoyed working with everyone, but you've decided to pursue another challenge, career, opportunity that better fit your interests, family or personal situation, etc.
And tell him when you would like for it to happen (i.e. immediately or 2 weeks or whatever) and how you are going to finish out your work and make it easy for someone else to transition into the job by leaving instructions or whatever you have to do in your job. Whatever you do, don't burn bridges, don't tell your boss off, don't vent or complain about the job or your co-workers.

Be honest and direct - no one likes a liar, tell them that you have found another position elsewhere ect...if you have not found another position be honest about the reasons you are leaving, also try to leave on good terms in case you need a letter of reference in the future.

Best of luck
