It really depends on what area of the southeast you are referring to. Atalanta is great for city life. Myrtle Beach, NC has wonderful beaches and boardwalks. Asheville, NC has the Biltmore Estate that is worth seeing. Pigeon Forge, TN is a lot of fun. I'm not sure if you are looking for beaches or mountatins, or other. Biloxi, MS used to be very pretty, but I haven't been there since Katrina.

Boston, Philadelphia, and DC are the best for museums and history. NYC is always great but I prefer it at Christmas and Miami (my home town) is great for laying on the beach all day and dancing all night. Vermont is a great state in the fall for driving around and visiting harvest festivals, changing of the leaves, etc.
