I like Emily. I'm a teacher and have an average of 300 students every year (just in my band program). In the last 7 years, I've only had 2 Emily's. I don't think it is over used. You could say that for any name really. Take mine for example...Elizabeth is one of the most comman names and biblical, but does that stop people from using it? I think that if YOU and your family love Emily, then go for it! I love the name by the way!!!

If you do want other choices, Elise and Emma are nice.

If you love it keep it. If you are worried about it being very common then move it to the middle name. Emily did rank in the top 10 for the 2006 US names census for girls. I am a Heather. I had a class in middle school where there were 4 other Heathers and when I went to high school it was even worse, with multiple classes with a number of different Heathers. I started going by a shortened version of my last name it was becomming so difficult to to tell which Heather was being addressed in group projects. That is why I say maybe use Emily as a middle name.

If you like it, go ahead and name her Emily! Sure it's a common name, but not too popular (there are definitely more Madisons than there are Emilys in my school classrooms). Give her unique middle name that possibly has special meaning to you (like the name of a family member or someone else who has influenced you) to make a name you and your daughter will definitely cherish.

Lilah is a pretty name too if you decide against Emily!

Emily is a cute name. In Old German, it means industious and in Latin it means flatterer. It is a feminine form of Emil and an indeed very popular name. You might try giving her an unusual middle name to compensate.

Some familiar forms of Emily are Amelia, Amy, Eimile, Emalee, Elemlyn, Emera, Emilia, Emiline, Emelynn, Emmey, Emlye, and Milka.

You could also use a distinct spelling to differ her from every other Emily.

And if you love the name, who cares if it's too popular?

Go ahead and name her Emily. If that is the name you love then it is the name for your baby. Emily is a classic that will never "die" or be "overused". If you want to make it a little different, pair it with an unusal middle name. Such as .....
Emily Reese
Emily Addison
Emily Elise
Emily Mariah

Emily and Emma are both way over-used. However, if you truly love the name, go with it or you'll regret it.

I've also seen Emilie which then the spelling is different. Or Emmalee. Some other options.

Or look into other "-ily" or "aly" type of names and see if something jumps out at you.

Definitely don't go with Emma if you don't want it to be over popular. It's #2. You could alter the spelling of Emily to Emilie. ( A French spelling of it. ) or Aemilia, the original Latin name. Amelia.

Lila's a beautiful name, growing to be more popular but nothing close to Emily. #329 last year. Lilah is less popular.

Name her Emily if you like it. I have a daughter named Emily, she is 6 and it wasn't as popular when I named her. You can try Emma or Lily.

I grew up with a lot of Emily's and that was years ago. However, you know how names go in cycles. I like the name Lilly Katherine, Emma Grace, or something similar. Good luck!
