Wash them again, and check you washing machine isnt suffering from limescale..do you wash your drawer in the washing machine (the bit you pull out to put powder/fabric conditioner in) if not all you do is pull it out gently, and wash that in warm soapy water. You may have to wash the clothes in a hot wash as possible..do you have a tumble dryer? Use it! If all else fails buy febreeze, which is a spray, you can get all sorts, for upholstery, you (obviously!!) need the one for clothes. Its very nice smell!! Or if the clothes aren't your favourite, I am afraid to say CHUCK them out!! You should be able to get rid of the damp smell by washing them again to be honest..I to have done that!! Do you use good washing powder? I advise the tablets you can get that come with a little drawstring bag, either Persil or Tesco own make! Also VANISH is Excellent. Pour some in too. Good LUck!! P.s DO NOT use bleach on coloured clothes, I know Americans do this alot, but they have different products than the UK.

Try washing them with a nice smelling washer detergent, and then when you dry them put in a dryer sheet thats scented and check your closet for damp areas because that can cause mildew

Wash in a detergent based with baking soda, then put in the dryer with a nice smelling fabric softener sheet, possibly using the new Frebreeze.

Well first of all, you could try washing them normally.

Other wise (if your clothes are white otherwise this bleaches) you could try washing your clothes using the recommended amount of detergent then adding 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar to the wash.

When the sun's out just hang them. that will take away the smell, and you dont have to remove them from the hangers either. I'd say invest in some clothes freshner as well.

common household ammonia..

add 3/4 cup to a washer load and nothing else, run the load through and then add your normal wash detergent and run it through..

i know a girl who had the habit of starting a load of towels and forgetting them in the washing machine. five days later they are rank. this works to the point that you would never know they smelled bad.

.you will be amazed.

Wash them and add Borax with your detergent. I swear by Borax. We have waterfront property and it helps get that musty smell out of everything. It has some kind of bacteria eater in it.
