If thought is an inner dialogue or a monologue, why not speak what is thought to another?

I do. But you have to exercise that special Filter that keeps us from seeming like roaming Id's, sharing our thoughts and urges like the stream-of-consciousness freaks that we are.

My face would be perpetually red from all the backhands. Inner monologue isn't always socially acceptable, hence the secretive state. Dave Chapelle did a skit which best sums up my feelings on this topic...

Because by nature people are evil because it's a survival instinct and they try to fight that part of themselves by using a filter and thinking things through before speaking.

because you dont speak just because you can, you must think what is the pourpose of us having to communicate with other through our voice and use specific sounds to form words... the answer is to work together as a society or community, so that we can do things that we cannot perform as individuals.
other than that words are unnecesary, unless you are a person that enjoys lies. even to show love; actions, our senses, and toughts are stronger than the waves of sound that could come out of our vocal chords.

because sometimes what you're thinking will offend someone else. for instance, i see swear words as indistinguishable from any other words, but a lot of people find them offensive.

Many times it would be gauche. Courtesy demands that we be on our best behavior with strangers. If they are friends, they already know.
