"Definition of Pregnant
Pregnant: The state of carrying a developing fetus within the body.
The word "pregnant" comes from the Latin pre- meaning before + (g)natus meaning birth = before (giving) birth. The word "prenatal" has exactly the same origin.
Common Misspellings: pregnit"
the above is from webmd
other misspellings that I've noticed: pregnate, prenant, (more)
I realize that some of you know English as a second language--so this doesn't apply to you.
However, it seems to me, that anyone capable of becoming pregnant, should at least know how to spell the word.
PREG - NANT

AP...
It is much of what I worry about in my day--I still have 4 unmarried children (though they are knowledgable about pregnancy, STDs and spelling/spell-check)...
---------
I said this doesn't apply to those learning English as a second language

GonaBAMom....--these people will need spelling in order to work, at some point.
I don't mind abbreviations--and I made a typo myself above (which they're not allowing me to fix)

k---I have nothing against those who use the terms 'preggy, preggo, preggers'--it beats spelling 'pregnant' wrong.

HelloKitty--Older people, and younger people, should know how to use 'spell-check' when they use a computer (and a dictionary, when they don't have access to a computer).

I agree but I'm 18yrs old and do KNOW how to spell pregnant too.
It's very easy :)
But it's not always "teenagers" it's also adults that have spelling difficulties. I'm always getting my mum asking me how to spell things.
You see when you get "older" and don't write as much as you used to, on depending what job you have, you forget English pronounciation to spelling the word.
English is my first language but then I have problems speaking English from living in Spain where Spanish is my 2nd language.

I agree but I don't understand how people are so hung up on spelling and grammar. Honestly I don't get people who cannot tolerate short hand and typos. It's great that english is your one and only skill but there is so much more out there than that.

The lack of knowledge on this site is very scary. It's a direct result of abstinence only education.
Call your Congressman and ask him to support comprehensive sexual education in schools.
You can DO something about this instead of just complaining on yahoo.

I think that some of those teenaged girls FANTASIZE about becoming pregnant because their friends are. Peer pressure to fit in & be cool.
