America is the only industrialized nation not to have universal health care because the American government does not and has not ever cared for the American people. The American government, for the most part, is composed of greedy parasites who feed off of the American public. The American government is made up of men and women who have sold their souls to the corporations and work only in the interests of those corporations. So, in the end, free healthcare, along with anything else that's good for America, is not part of the equation.
Allow me to clarify the common misconception people make about Socialist leaning nations. The common myth that these people push (usually Capitalists) is that the healthcare system and economy of these nations is unstable and inadequate. This is blatantly incorrect. Most of these people who make these claims have never been to say France or Germany. They've never even studied these nations. Besides that, the healthcare system(s) in Europe are more than adequate; they are progressive.
As for the "we can't afford it" claim: America could easily afford it if the government wanted to. If the American government can find trillions of dollars for the Iraq war, I'm sure it can find billions of dollars for a national health care system.

Till today the far right has been able to convince those in power and a part of the American public that would be communism.
So in that opinion all other Industrialized countries outside the US are communist. How they then still can maintain the claim they won the cold war is beyond me.
Insurance companies have an interest to keep this out and are prepared to go to big lengths to stop efforts to move in that direction.Remember what they did when Clinton tried in his first term. For most people it's hard to see through organized propaganda and it is hard.

Because so many people are paranoid about what they see as a step toward socialism. They don't think about the fact that inside of our capitalistic Republic, we employ certain aspects of socialism already that fit into our everyday lives yet haven't and won't turn us into a socialistic state. Social security, welfare, Medicaid, all sorts of programs and governmental assistance for the poor and needy. Universal Health Care is going to become a reality in this country. The conservatives like to pretend it's only Democrats like Clinton who want this to happen but many Republicans in Congress support the idea. Mitt Romney is absolutely for it. It's almost reached the hysteria of the McCarthy years, but not quite yet.
It's the Chicken Little syndrome and some people seem to think the UHC will somehow propel us into doing away with our Constitution and becoming a socialist country. I can't help but think of them as hysterics who cannot see past their own noses. When it happens, and it will, they'll continue to complain, and some will perhaps be disappointed that their dire predictions didn't come true when a statue of Karl Marx doesn't magically appear next to the Lincoln Memorial.

Look at your insurance premium. Think about how many insurance companies have stock in hospitals. Healing the sick in America is not a noble calling; it is big business. Major corporations want to make it bigger.
This comment is not a dig at doctors, nurses, or other health professionals. Sadly, CEOs are making decisions on health care, not doctors, et al. Think about it.
Maybe Haliburton will set up a government-funded HMO. With enough time, the company can establish a birth-to-grave internal economy.

I never get the industrialized nation argument - oft used for things like this as well as gas taxes and so on. China is largely industrialized, I'd pass on what they call healthcare (I've been there).
Look at Medicare; it's universal to the elderly, and it's crap.

Because, honey, they must want all those patients from the countries who have it and don't receive satisfaction from their own country's health care.

It's a good thing we don't other wise those in need of real treatment in a timely manner would die in their own country.

Universal healthcare doesn't work. In the long run is going to leave us with inept doctors, long lines, and worse medical care.
