We went in there not because of UN resolutions, oil, WMDs, a humanitarian mission to "spread democracy" or to protect Israel. We went in to spread US influence in the mideast, and one of the things we were planning on happening was a weakening of Iran.
However, the war has had the opposite effect. Iran's influence is now spread throughout Iraq and into parts of Lebanon. Shouldn't it have been clear that this would happen? Shouldn't it have been clear that allowing Iran to reopen relations with the Iraqi Shi'ia community would bring tons of money into Iran, not to mention political power? Were the architects of the war so idealistic that they thought that Iraqis would assume western values overnight and start praying to Washington DC instead of Mecca just because we got rid of Saddam?

I think it was a combination of naive idealism (PNAC-style) mixed with cold, callous, cynicism.

Whatever the real motivations and tactical awareness of the architects may have been, I think they knew this one truth at the bottom of it all:

Once our forces are engaged, it can be made politically impossible to withdraw them by calling those who advocate withdrawal things like "cut and run surrender monkey defeatocrats..." or something like that.

In other words, even if it turned out to be a horrible mistake geopolitically, the short-term nationalistic and business reasons were enough for that particular group of old men to pull the national trigger the way they did.

It's shameful.

Good question, but has nothing to do with prayer....

A wise man said, in order to predict the future always look at the past.

Iraq could never be a democratic country, since the babylons and even b4 that iraqis had to be ruled by dictators. Once they sense that there is some leanancy towards them or some kind of democracy for them, they automatically go against each other, kill their ruler and their apponents them kill them selves....

As for Iran, don't worry, the strength of Iran is nothing and if yo read in history that the persian empire only became an empire by money and taking over peasants and farmers lands... maybe smaller villages and tribes... but what ever army stood against the Persians they always loose..

The Muslims brought down the Persian Empire to its knees with only 40'000 soldiers...

Jenkis Khan later did bring them to an end with even less than 40'000 soldiers.....

Lets not forget the Spartons with only 300 soldiers stopped an army of a million.....

AND in the late 70's of the past century with less than 1% of the Irani nation, they took over the power and threw away the Shah and his army....

This should teach us something, although i agree with the saying "never under estimate your enemy" but you could come up with a conclution of all that now....

Are you kidding? each missile that made it previous Sderot to Asheklon & Ashdod have been Iranian grads. The Hamas made stuff would not bypass that a techniques. CNN had a reveal of the somewhat some missiles that have landed in Israel (the place some maintains to be existed) & confirmed the chinese language lettering on the grads - they are manufacturing unit made with rapidly lines & all. there have been different state-of-the-paintings ones too. How do you recognize there have been not anti-tank armour or any of that? What do you think of all the efforts with warning via how the IDF operated grow to be? there have been bobby traps & it hindered movements daily there have been comments. Israel grow to be vindicated on this is claims. Hamas's substantial shops have been destroyed interior the 1st air strikes & over days yet they stored firing & it shop being greater suitable & greater suitable missiles. They even fired a phosrouphous one close to the top at Israeli civilian areas. It proves that Israel's claims of weapons smuggling & stashes grow to be authentic whilst they nonetheless had some left in spite of each little thing of that grow to be already destroyed. hear to the information & you will see all those products. As for "zionist propaganda", the rustic is "Israel" & this is not basically impolite to not use this is call. whether shows your stance is to not locate out any fact yet in basic terms help your own preconceived notions. in my opinion i presumed it thrilling that Hamas did not use their greater suitable stuff till finally afterward. I have been given the impact, they have been working low on their own residence made stuff, yet nonetheless needed to fireplace. It grow to be strange how the greater that have been given destroyed the bigger their weapons have been given. ============ Vavo Israel offered the Palestinians an self sustaining u . s . in 2000. Knesset voted particular. this is the PA that grew to become it down (Arafat walked out on the furnish). In turn THE PA began the intafada conflict with Israel. Why? simply by fact in -some- Arab minds the only ok answer is a larger Arab Muslim empire interior the area. And Israel creates a thorn in that plan & "steals" that greater suitable objective. the assumption of Arabs as Palestinian & a u . s . grow to be created interior the 1960's for the PR - it says so interior the PLO shape (you will hit upon & examine it on the internet.) you have being suckered into helping the dislike of the radical authentic wing PAs which does not help those PAs who prefer peace.

What you don't understand is that everything is going exactly as planned.

Of course going into Iraq would empower Iran.

But without empowering Iran, how could the US/Israel become justified in attacking Iran? That's what they wanted all along.

It wasn't overlooked. Read George H.W. Bush, "A World Transformed." The son just didn't read Dad's advice.

I doubt it was. I saw it. Also, the Iran-Russia connection.

The thing is, the ME has been a hot-bed for some time. And diplomacy has equaled concessions. With them not honoring their promises.

Plus, I think our military IS THAT GOOD!!

They didn't think it through. They only invaded a foreign country without regard to the consequences and I bet they didn't even think about Iran.
