I think you've got a peperomia plant; see this website:

It's a pedilanthus, also called a "devil's backbone" (because of the crooked stems). The one in your picture is in serious need of humidity! That's why the edges of the leaves are brown. I would get a clear plant saucer (you can get one at most nurseries for a dollar or two), fill it with pebbles or pea gravel, and pour water in the saucer so that it's just below the top of the pebbles. As the water evaporates, it will make the air immediately around the plant considerably more humid. You probably can't do much for the existing leaves, but the new ones should be better off.

Other than that - keep it evenly moist, but not wet, and feed it with a relatively low-nitrogen fertilizer to keep the nice variegation. It will probably do well in bright, indirect light - no direct sunlight.

Edit: Ok - I didn't realize the scale of this plant until I saw the mention of a ficus on the second photo. It's bigger than I thought (I was thinking 2-inch leaves), so it's a variegated variety of a rubber plant, ficus elastica. However, the advice above for humidity, water, and feeding stands. It does need bright light to thrive, but don't keep it in sunlight, as that will toast the leaves, especially as they're variegated.

i've got heard chatting with them helps them strengthen, so while you are going to have on an wide-spread basis conversations with them, would to boot provide 'em names too! I surely have a houseplant, yet i've got been neglecting it.

It is a Ficus/Sylvie, I found other oic's on flickr.com. There are several different types of Ficus one that looks similar is a variegated ficus/benjamina. Hope I was helpful.

It almost looks like a rubber tree, but I've never seen one with that color of leaves before. Try looking online. Hope that helps!
