Skillet was awesome. Their song "Savior" was intense live, and "The Last Night" and "Rebirthing" were also hugely popular.
If no one's seen Skillet, i recommend them. Highly. They were by far the hit of the day.

Aerosmith -- simply amazing. over two hours, all the songs you'd expect and a few surprises.
Scorpions -- seen them 3 times. set list didn't change much. they always had lots of energy though.
Deep Purple -- again, amazing. it was pourning down rain and so much fun.
Alice Cooper -- a legend. 'nuff said. like Aerosmith, all the hits, and some surprises.
Black Sabbath -- seen them twice. the 1st time, great. The 2nd, Ozzy seemed like he had no clue where he was.
Dio -- he was good. basically stood around and sang.
Iron Maiden -- seen twice. awesome both times. Bruce has such amazing range.
Metallica -- they are great live. the set list surprised me.
the "new" Guns N Roses -- decent show. Axl still got the pipes. Buckethead is an underrated guitarist. He left the band shortly after though.
Bon Jovi -- 2 hours of hits and a couple covers. this was for the Crush tour.
Poison -- they were touring without a new album ('03 I think) but still drew 18,000 people. they had the pyro and fire and it was cheesy but a lot of fun. most people don't realize how talented Bret and CC are.

Rolling Stones / Maroon 5: It was a great show but the big downfall of the concert was that the Stones didn't play "Paint It Black", one of my favorite songs of theirs. But otherwise it was just an incredible show, they had a moving stage which could detach from the main stage and come out into the crowd a ways and bring everyone with it. It was a perfect night for a concert and we still enjoyed it even though we were pretty high up.
Steve Miller Band / Eric Johnson: The music was probably some of the best of any live show I've seen. Eric Johnson is an incredible musician himself and he came out and did almost the entire set with Steve's band. But we had lawn seats for that concert, it was a close-staged reserved seating and farther away lawn tickets type of venue. It was nice considering you could bring almost whatever you wanted in but there were a lot of drunk people there looking for fights and stuff. This one kid climbed a tree right next to me and almost hit me in the head with a falling branch when it broke. I'll never again go to a concert in lawn seating, the people in the reserved seating section were obviously having a much better time than we were but they kept playing music. They did this absolutely incredible triple-lead guitar version of "Wintertime" to close out the show but then things just got worse as the venue's crowd control was absolutely horrendous. The Band's and Eric's buses were trying to leave for a next-day show in Maine but people were really eager to get out of there seeing there was only a 2-lane road to get out.
Santana / Los Lonely Boys: It was a really small venue were we saw them but what a show it was. By far the best music I've ever seen live. I saw 2 of my friends from school there so that was really nice. Jojo and Santana's bassist Benny Rietveld both used these massive 6 stringed basses which was really a sight to see like in Benny's 10 1/2 minute solo only accompanied onstage by drummer Dennis Chambers. The show was very organized and it was very well set up so that everyone had time to use the restrooms and get drinks between opening acts and Santana.

I've been to thousands of shows - without exaggeraton.
Most are a blur, but some stand out:
Poison/Cinderella/Winger: 2002-ish in Denver, CO. VERY fun show.
Bon Jovi: 2005-ish at Giants Stadium - worth sitting in the pouring rain for
Aerosmith - pretty much any tour is worth it, but SO much fun at Jones Beach - they were the BEST with Run DMC and Kid Rock.

Here is what I can remember off the top of my head:
Eagles - just a few years ago, it was nice to hear the old hits I listened to as a kid in the 70s.
Cinderella - back in the late 80s, great show (Long Cold Winter tour).
AC/DC - seen them twice, lots of energy and I was fascinated both times with how Angus does his little stomp and head bang routine endlessly. It was hypnotic. I have heard stories about when they used to shoot off real cannons during "For Those About to Rock".
Metallica - three times, once on And Justice for All, which I lost some of my hearing because I was standing in front of the monitors. Once on the Black album tour - AWESOME (and not quite so loud, although I was prepared with earplugs!!). Once on the Load tour, good but our seats were too far away.
Pantera - the lead singer blew a booger out of his nose onstage. Gross!
Tesla - the lead singer was drunk as hell, they just wandered out on stage with the house lights still on. Good show, though.
Queensryche - the way Geoff Tate sings is remarkable. Used to be my fave band.
Motley Crue - I love to watch Tommy Lee.
Aerosmith - good show. Nothing out of this world but I am glad I got to see them.
Doobie Brothers - great show, I had no idea how talented they really were until I saw them LIVE.
Poison/Skid Row/LA Guns - hair metal, I love Sebastian Bach (I've seen Skid Row twice) but these guys can't pull off this look anymore at their age.
Jackyl - great live show. You can't appreciate them until you have seen them live. Redneck punks and a chainsaw, what more can you ask for!
KISS - twice, the first time I was intoxicated and don't remember it, and the second time was good but they seemed silly for some reason.
Creed - great show, we had front row seats (given to me) and they rocked.
Fuel - outdoor show, they were great.
Live - one of my favorite bands, they sounded awesome and put on a great show.
Tonic - it was in a small venue and they were awesome.
Ted Nugent - I have seen him several times, solo and with Damn Yankees. Ted is the man, even if I don't always agree with his opinions. He is smart and can play hell on a guitar, he puts on a great show.
Puddle of Mudd - great show opening for Kid Rock.
Kid Rock - I was surprised that this was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. He is way more talented than I ever thought, and he can PERFORM. I have seen him twice.
U2 - I don't think it falls into your three categories, of course, but going to a U2 show is like a religious experience. Absolutely incredible. I had to mention it!
Wish I could have seen: Alice in Chains, Van Halen back when David Lee and Eddie were getting along, Iron Maiden back in the 80s, Soundgarden, still want to see Pearl Jam, Nickelback, Disturbed, Godsmack, Rob Zombie.

One of the best concerts I ever saw was Jane's Addiction at a small venue, like an airplane hangar. It was crowded but they were awesome. That was about 10 years ago.
I love that band & Perry Farrel put on quite a show!

slayer, pantera , sepeltura, slipknot you will end up moshing.
metallica, rob zombie, you might have to mosh too, but its a good experience. Tool is great live. Most bands now dont do general admission shows unless its like a big tour like ozzfest, warped tour. Stuff like that. GA is when you just go in the area and get shoved or try to to get to the front. and end up with bruised ribs. awesome!
