turn off the cruise control. Contrary to popular belief, you can do better!
Their job is to maintain a certain speed, not get the best mileage. So they accelerate up hills and coast down.
Truck drivers use the technique where they gain speed going down hill so they can make it up the other side quickly. the less time on a hill the better and let it slow down a little, loosing 5 mph while climbing the hill.
You can do this by maintaning the same gas pedal position all the time, never move the pedal. Everytime you do, it waste gas. Try it sometime.
CC does work good on the flat lands like the desert

I had a 2002 Honda CRV that i just traded in, but it was AMAZING. I loved it and its gas was great. Not quite as good gas mileage as a honda Civic maybe, but still very good...

Keeping the proper air presure in the tire's is important, as well as keeping the engine running right, but the biggest factor is your driving habit's, keep your speed around 65 on the highway, cruise control is great for this if you got a heavy foot, and try to avoid rapid acceleration and quick stops, you suck gas alot that way, good luck

Keeping the tires inflated to the proper pressures will help. The tires are often overlooked and may be low on pressure.
Your driving habits are also one of the biggest things to getting the best mileage out of your car. Try soft starts, lower your speed while driving, and try and hold an even speed and not brake and accelerate so often. good luck.

Keep your tires properly inflated, make sure your air filter is clean and don't go over 65 mph on the highway.
Those are really the only things that will give you any tangable help for a small cost.
Good luck!

The gentleman is correct-also you can try accelerating softly (not stomping on the gas at every green). I have heard that switching to synthetic oil will increase gas mileage (less friction). It will cost more than regular oil...but you only have to change it every 5k miles-so it works out.

Other users have mentioned tire pressure, air filter, smooth/slower driving. another thing that helps is to make sure your car has regular oil changes, tune ups and spark plugs.
