Hi, I have asked questions before, I have a spiral fracture of my tib and fib, i was in a full cast for 7 weeks, I am now in a below knee cast and was told I can now weight beare.
What exactly does this mean. can I walk as normal using my cruches.
I can't stand straight let alone walk, my cast is cut funny. it still covers my knee but is cut away at the back, this allows me to bend my knee. How long should I be like this before it comes off and I can walk normal.
The hospital did not give me much info, just left me to it and said see you in 5 weeks.
Has anyone else been in this situation. should I still take it easy.

Well I had something similar. They told me I could put 20 kilogramms of my weight on my foot and make me practice with scales, so I knew what 20kg felt like.
Well, so it is hard to say if 'weight bear'means your full weight.
It is important that you put weight on your leg as soon as you are allowed to, otherwise you lose too many muscles and it will take longer to recover.
If in doubt, you should go back to the hospital and ask what exactly they want you to do.

Yes i would take it easy for as long as you can so that everything can heal, but exercise gently, very gently from time to time.I do sympathise with you as i have a vertebral fracture and have been in bad pain with it for nearly 3years now.I haven't had any operation for it as they said it would get better in time, they never did tell me how long it was going to take,i guess every body is different.Good luck with yours.

Weight bearing means your leg is now strong enough that you can put weight on it. The rest of your questions were answered in your question.

If you can now bear weight that means you can walk. If you need to use crutches then use them but you can walk now.
