Does anyone know if in America you can have a numeral in your name...other than II, III, or IV?

I just read an article about this couple in New Zealand who want to name their baby 4Real. But officials are trying to "negotiate" with the parents. It stated that if they can't come to an agreement by July 9 the records will state the baby's name as Real.

I do know a little girl named Violence. Her dad said when she was born, all of the Violence in his world went away. He is a deep thinker.

You can't spell a word with a number. its not a word its a slang. Next thing you know people are going to spell there kids name with only numbers. numbers are symbols. I'm going to spell my next kids name like this :) and it will be pronounced "Smiles" . I get that people want to be different but ou gotta make sense. what will be so hard with just spelling out the word "for". it still an unusual name either way

I've been thinking a lot about this. I caught the video bit on the BBC. And while I think the name is atrocious... I don't think the government should have any say in what a parent chooses to call their kid. I would hate to get a phone call saying I couldn't name my daughter Eden, because it offends atheists, you know?

But the video brought up some good points at the end... they said they had stopped parents from naming their children things like "Satan" and "Adolf Hitler". In those cases, or perhaps just more the Hitler one, it makes me wonder if naming your child can be a form of child abuse. And where that line is.

It's crazy... but I think they should be allowed to call their child whatever they like.

As for the US laws, I personally have no clue. I'm sure if they work something out and get the numerical "4" approved it will pave the way even more for L33t speak and other computer jazz to weave itself into the English language. *shrugs* You can't stop development, even if it's a kind you don't like.

No, in the states you cannot use the number 4 but I'm sure the parents would change it to for-real.

I don't like it but it is the parents choice. And, yes the United States has disapproved a few names such as Osama bin Laden. If you look up newspaper records you will find these stories.

I think that is awful! What is the meaning of naming your child that, because you think its neat? How's your child going to feel when its 20 out in the real world applying for a job with a name like that, seriously thats sad. I understand people want their child to have a unique, special name but think long term.

I don't know, but I hope for the sake for the child that the answer is NO. Wow, that kid is going to be made fun of for the rest of his/her life, and will probably hate the parents growing up. I can't stand these so-called "original names".

Kabalarian will probably have to research this name and get back to you but its worth the effort. Use the "Kabalarian"
group to research additional meaning for your choice of names.
