I don't really want a rodent, although I know rats are fun. Something small would really be good! I want a pet that I can do things with me like play in the garden but don't need too much looking after. Also, I will need to persuade my parents so what pets will they be most likely to say yes to?

Well, I see you're not too interedt in rats, that would be my first suggestion, actually a cat would be, but since there's the allergy thing...

I've had lots of pets, cats, dogs, fish, horses, rodents, etc. By far, the easiest to care for is cats. Just scoop the litter daily, change it out completely at least every few weeks, and make sure there's good, healthy food and water available.

BUT I strongly believe cats should only be allowed outdoors on leashes or in pens, and even then only closely supervised. Outdoor cats don't live NEARLY as long as indoor only cats. They are subject to predation, disease, and getting hit by cars. The same would be true for any pet, so playing in the garden might be something you should not expect.

Enjoy your new pet!

Update - since you have cat allergies in the home, then a ferret might be a good choice - I personally don't like them but I know many who just love theirs. Or adopt a mature dog from the humane society - be sure it's house-trained and well-behaved. Often seniors who have to go to nursing homes have to give up their beloved pets, and their pets would make wonderful additions to any household. Dogs are a BIT more work, in that you have to walk them and clean up poop. BUT they are wonderful companions, and would make great playmates in that garden.

Birds are also great companions - they are very intelligent and fun. BUT you could not take it outside. AND if and when they need veterinary attention, it is VERY expensive. And the little cheap ones like budgies (we call them parakeets) are terribly fragile. I've had about 20 of them over the years, and I love them, but I've also spent thousands of dollars on vet bills.

I know you said you dont like rodents but hamsters are very cheap and very easy to look after, they are nocturnal which means they are awake at night so its cool if your out all day, you can let them out in the garden if you keep your eye on them. A rabbit would be good or a guini pig. Good luck with choosing.

A spayed female cat. Preferable a tabby or a breed known for being friendlier. I just love cats, and they are easy to take care of you are educated about them. They will happily go potty outside in a designated spot, or inside in a litter box. They like routine, they keep themselves clean, and they like to follow their favorite person around and "help" with everything. As long as you learn how to make a cat happy, (or any pet) they will make you happy as well.

I agree with some of the other people, a rabbit is a great pet to play with in the garden, they love being outside.

Rabbits are good, they come in sizes from like a pound to 30 pounds, they can be litter trained as well.

Chinchillas are nice but as they are rodents you would probably not want one

There are several types of turtles that are fairly easy to keep.

rabbits are amazing pets to have. tey will also looovee playing in your garden. they love to play and toss toilet paper rolls around. yoiu can even teach them to come when you call them, jump, stand on their hind legs, lie down, shake hands, and go potty in a litterpan. they are great loveable creatures. they are pretty easy keepers. all you have to do is clean the cage every other day, feed them, give them water, and oh yea.... LOTS of love. have fun and i hope you choosse the rabbit as your new furry friend!

A ferret can be fun, playful, even lovable. If you start it young, you can train it to use a litterbox. They sell really small leash/harnesses to take a ferret on a walk. Ferrets really have an odor though, when really small. It mellows with age, or with a bath.

Rabbits are fun and also very cute. Im sure they love to plsy in gardens, cuz they love the outdoors. Theyr very easy to take care of, you can feed them alot of the vegetables you have in your refrigrator. one bad thing is they leave pellets under your bed. So my suggestion is to not let them out the cage unless thyere going outside or you are going to watch them.

Get a cat. All you have to do is feed and water. They pretty much take care of them self, no training required, and they love attention.
