you need an adapter and a converter, one for the socket and the other to converter the electricity or whatnot, it you just simply only use a plug adapter your straightener wont work or you could blow a fuse in the place you are staying at, so you have to make sure the voltage is right...when i went there last summer i only had a plug adapter so i couldnt use a lot of stuff i brought, only things that had a built in adapter like my ipod, camera/mobile charger, laptop etc

Well, it depends on where you go... some countries have 110 plugs, and most expensive hotels have both but there are some countries in Europe which use 220 volt plugs and sockets.

Definitely not, unless you have a 110V to 220V AC transformer. In Europe they use 220V AC.
Don't try to just use a plug adaptor. Your hair straightener will get fried.

You will need a plug adaptor - we use a three pin system here in the UK and France, Germany etc ect all have different ones.
