If you mean the band LIVE I woudl say the album "Throwing Copper". If you mean a live recording made into an album then I would say the Jimi Hendrix album "Band of Gypsies". MTV unplugged had some good albums too, particularly Nirvana.

Totally agree with Fonzie T., Frampton sounds the best live...
but for me, it's Pink Floyd's Is Anybody Out There? The wall Live 1980-1981. The wall was never my favorite floyd, but the live versions of it, with Snowy White's guitar solos after David Gilmours, and with Richard Wrights organ solos were amazing....

Difficult question to answer. Alot of it depend's on the genre of R&R your into. Some of my personel favorite's would be; Johnny Winter " Catured Alive ", " Kiss Alive ", " Frampton Comes Alive ", Deep Purple " Made In Japan", Rory Gallager " The B.B.C. Tapes ". The Tubes " What do you want from live" , B.O.C., Clapton, Chuck Berry, The list goes .on

Arguably the most popular is "Frampton Comes Alive". But how many of today's teens know him? But that album was ENORMOUS. I think the biggest selling live album ever.
