Go to www.makingfriends.com. I use this sight primarily to get new ideas for girl scout meetings. It has lots of fun ideas. And it has a lot of beaded crafts that are easy. Just use a key ring or lanyard hook with your project to turn it into a keychain. Works great!

The simple key fob is certainly within a ten year old's reach, I also have made the other one with kids even younger.

Scoubidou sites, scoubi is mostly done by kids between 8 and 14 so they should be a help:

me and my ten year old sister make key chains out of Craft lace(you can find it at Jo-ann fabrics michaels or Wal Mart) where you fold the string into a box or circle shape the instructions come inside of the package.

The simplest would be to buy pieces in a craft store and assemble them at home. Craft stores have lots of fun kits if you don't want to create them yourself.

Here's a site that you can make a lanyard to attach your key to your back pack. Once it is made, you can pick up hook, similar to a lobster claw clasp to hook it on.
