I was reading a report that said that TX is now number 3 behind Miss and Louisiana in terms of poor people. And that TX has the largest gap of rich and poor people in the state. Do you think the illegal mexicans are contributing to the state's decline? Are they eating up our resources?

Also our crime problems in Dallas and Houston--high murders, robberies, thefts make me think this state doesn't have any hope. What do you guys think?

I'm in Houston. You have no idea how bad it's getting. Ever since the Katrina/Rita mess, it just is getting worse and worse. And we're supposedly in a 'good section' of town. **eye roll**

I know we're going to try to get OUT in the next couple months. We don't care what state, we can go anywhere, but just not here.

we've always had these problems in texas. they just look like they are getting worse because of population increases (for the most part).

as far as income gap, yes, that is in part due to the illegals. but, frankly, illegals have always been here. that is why our housing is so cheap....illegal labor. (and we have a whole freaking lot of space to build). the income gap is also due to increased drug use, new drugs, and economic shifts.

the people that want to work and make a decent living are doing so. there will always be a portion of the population that refuses to work and prefers to live on welfare. as long as we continue to have liberals making welfare easy, we will continue to have this problem. that is why this is a conservative state historically.

it also hasn't helped that the hurricane katrina victims were relocated from louisiana to texas. every town that had an influx of that group saw a spike in the crime rate. (no offense louisiana, but, gee thanks for sending us your criminals...lol)

the crime rate is also subject to population growth, drug use, and repeat offenders. we have a huge prison population with inmates being paroled every day. not all parolees will make it on the outside and many re-offend just to get back to where they don't have to work and where they understand how the world works.

we are a big state with a huge population. but we aren't going anywhere and we have some of the toughest laws and best police force in the country.
