I'd like to address the USA on this one specifically (as if you're not 90 percent of the respondents in here anyway) because I realize in the days of founding fathers your constitution was written so that the CHURCH actually governed politics.

But how can you be sure the tables aren't turned and GOVERNMENT manipulates religion to control it's people?

Do you really think government and religion should be linked?

Do you think it's possible religion was corrupted by government?

If yes, then how can you still support their being linked?

I think religion has always played a part in governing politics in one way or another, not just in the USA as a democratic society, is it possible that the two being intertwined is actually a detriment to it's people....because of the fact it can all be manipulated?

I mean aren't the problems worldwide all linked to religion...governments should just focus on the job of governing society.

Without religion, govt itself becomes a huge tyrant. You cant proclaim freedom of religion and then 200 years later turn around and tell the people that the govt should be atheist. We are a representative democratic republic and religion is a part of the people so therefore is a natural part of govt. However that does not and should not entail govt control of the church. The constitution is very specific about that.

I believe in a theocracy indeed the church is corrupted by politics. I think thats why they dont work.

You are describing the problems a theocracy faces, not a democratic republic. Our only challenge is to keep atheists at bay that want to make the govt an atheistic entity.

“Like Stalin and Mao, Hitler illustrates the point made by both Dostoyevsky and earlier John Locke: when God is excluded, then it is not surprising when morality itself is sacrificed in the process and chaos and horror is unleashed on the world. So it has been in our time, and all the elaborate evasions produced by today’s atheists cannot change what their anti-religious kinsmen did, cannot change the grim facts of history.” -Dinesh D'Souza

Religion is just another special interest group and special interest groups are a necessary part of democracy. Right or wrong, you can't stop people from organizing around something that matters to them. And isn't what matters to people what our government should be working toward anyway? If you ruled out religion as an influence on politics, you'd essentially be saying "what you want isn't right or important." And who in a democracy has the right to say that to another person in a democracy?

Politics shouldn't combination in faith yet faith might desire to combination in politics , this potential that Politics might desire to be executed in accordance the the non secular concepts. The State governed by utilizing Muslims might desire to be Run in accordance to Shariat. Islam isn't approximately non secular rituals and merely believing. If that's what Islam is all approximately then each and each of the religions are comparable with purely some minor variations. for this reason Islam is a progressive faith not for a guy yet for the completed Mankind.

Religion and government should never be linked. Politics corrupts religion; religion corrupts politics. It's the old mind game that, "If you don't believe like I do, you are not moral, a patriot, etc. (fill in the blank)."

I think there are good and there are corrupt people in politics and in religion,

I also think Greed driven politicians don't give a rat's *** about religion except to the extent they can controll other people with it.

I think that might answer your question under the current Bushco crime family dictatorship.

The Church didn't govern the founding fathers but the founding fathers personally held beliefs did. Since they were highly religous they incorporated a lot of their own beliefs into things, much the same way as it is today...

it's all linked together to a certain extent. The politicians will do what they want so there is no use in fighting it anyhow. It is BY THE PEOPLE but the goverment usually has the last say so anyhow. All we do is go along with whoever is the elected one in office at the time.

Please read the 1 st amendment of the constitution and the bill of rights of the US. But on our money it says in "God We Trust". religion does have a strong influence on government but I feel that the checks and balances help to keep them separate. All I can say is vote, vote, vote. Let your voice be heard

Yes. There has been no instance in history when politics merged with religion and religion came out any cleaner because of it.
