Getting into med school is a process. As soon as you arrive at college and get settled, you need to seek out the premed advisor for a chat, and find the premed club and join up. You need four years of support from other premeds and faculty if you are going to get into med school.

Also, you have to make an iron-clad promise to yourself that study will always come first. Nothing else happens until you are 100% up to date and secure in all your work.

And, it would be a really good plan to seek out some way to get hooked up with a researcher in chem or bio who is working on publishable research. A lot of premeds have published research before they apply to med school. If you do not have any research experience, your application could be seen as incomplete. Same goes for volunteer work at a local hospital. Med schools want people who are totally dedicated to healing, not just high GPAs.

Of course, no one gets into med school who isnt smart, but a lot of smart people get turned down because they are smart but not dedicated.

Good luck!
