First off, the Intel Core Duo (not Core 2 duo) is a mobile processor for laptops that's been around for quite some time, so I don't think that's the one you're looking to compare.
The Intel Core 2 Duo is Intel's latest line of dual-core processors for mainstream desktops, and are excellent processors- they are fast, overclock well, use less energy and run cooler than AMD chips.
But in order to compare, we need to know which model number of Core 2 Duo you'd be buying otherwise. You specified a 3Ghz 6000+ for the AMD, so which Core 2 duo?
OK, I found updated benchmarks- the AMD X2 6000+ outperforms the Core 2 Duo 4300-6600 chips but can't keep up with the 6700.
So if your choice is between the X2 6000+ and a 6400 or 6600, AMD is the winner. If you're looking at a 6700 or higher, go with the Core 2 Duo.

Both are powerful, if that's what you meant. But the AMD may use less energy. On the other hand the Intel is a little more powerful and has better customer service and a better warranty. It's really up to what you prefer more.
By the way.... to above... overclocking is dangerous, you risk overheating not only your processor, but other components as well. And once you tamper with the manufacturer's settings the warranty and customer service is gone.

There are lots of opinions on this. The best thing to do is find the benchmarks at tomshardware.com
The Intel chip has a bit more horsepower at this point, but the AMD variety is generally cheaper and will do the same job that the Intel will do. I'm a "best bang for the buck" kind of guy so I prefer to get performance for pennies on the dollar. That's my opinion, but do your homework and you can make an educated decision for yourself based on your needs.
