No. It's all about the right shooting technique/form. First of all, if you're first starting out, my 6th grade coach always told me to lay down on your bed with a basketball and shoot it in the air with one air- to get the hang of flicking the wrist. Be sure when you are shooting it in the air, it has a spin to it. Next, when you are outside to shoot, put your forearm and biceps in an "L" shape. Always shoot the ball in an "L" form arm. Then put your opposite hand on left (if right handed) or right (if left handed). The other important thing is to bend your knees and jump when you shoot, (called a jumpshot) your legs are 50% of your shot. Square up to the basket and just practice shooting. Good luck.

If your form and technique including follow through is correct like you say than you are lacking the strength in your tricep muscle(lower arms) to get distant on your shot.
You need to do some back arm exercises to increase your strength in this area. Remember this all must conincide with your form and jump on your shot. If your triceps become strong enough your range will become limitless dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

yes lift weights and remember to use your legs. Dont wont to become heavier unless it is muscle. Make sure you still have correct form and dont change it to try to shoot from farther away. Stay within your range until you are strong enough to move back. KEEP WORKING
