Dual-core refers to a technology, a type of CPU which has two processing cores.

"Core 2 Duo" is the name of one particular dual-core design.

It's like the difference between "Hybrid Car" and "Prius"

The Pentium-D, AMD X2, and Core 2 Duo are all dual-core CPUs.

Dual core means that there are actually 2 separate CPU chips in the CPU package.

Core2duo is Intel's name for it and it means that there are two processors designed onto the same chip in the CPU package.

dual core = 2 chips 2 processors
core2duo = 1 chip 2 processors

The core2duo is the better option of the two.

Hope this helps.
