stop making babies, or at least have one baby per couple? so many problems woulld be solved in the end, wont be overpopuated, no homelessness, no need to cut down trees and distroy nature, no starvation, no more global warming and so on. so why not just not have babies for some time? because of religion?? because it says in the bible that we should reproduce? should we do that until there is no space for ous to live? wolfs and fish keep their population down when there is not enough space or food, why cant we?

Great question... Star! Indeed the proliferation in numbers, especially in the third world poor countries, is one of the most basic and multifaceted problem as you have wonderfully elaborated.

Prevention is better than cure.... so it is better to have abortion than give birth to an unwanted child..... however, even better is to prevent conception itself.

There is a strange (and sad as well) correlation between the number of children and financial status..... poor families usually have more children and poor nations have usually bigger average family-size. Somehow, the religious taboos seem to impact poor people more than the rich...... perhaps the poor are more often than not ignorant and uneducated.

I believe that the most important thing is for parents to sincerely feel responsible for their children.....if every parent is mindful of the responsibility towards a child, both financial as well as otherwise, then perhaps very few would really go for any more than two children.

China is indeed on the right track. At the level of society and state, there ought to be stringent disincentives, both economical and social, to effectively discourage too many children...... I am not so sure whether one child per family is the ideal or not, but certainly more than two does not seem desirable at all. In democracies, such welfare oriented steps do not seem to impress the political class because these steps are often viewed as restrictive and unpopular....... and even if a sincere politician dares to talk of this, the religious leaders see an opportunity to browbeat him and increase their own influence in the society through emotional and sentimental propagation of religion. The reason why religion seems to end up misleading us, is the wrong hierarchy of priorities we place on the needs of body, mind and spirit.... we somehow seem to reverse the order of priority and cater to spirit even before and at the cost of the requirements of body and mind...... population control is a requirement of body and mind which must be met first before we begin to cater to the spiritual requirements. People seem to think that if we can not take care of our life here, let us at least secure our afterlife!!

You are going too far! Just ask . We are polluting the world. Why cannot we have one car for each family? We are overeating. Why cannot we have only simple meal? Why cannot we have only a few shirts ? ... The lst can go on and on.

The reason I am saying this is because every couple thik that "they can afford it". They think the world would be better with a kid around in the house. They will not adopt a kid from Africa. No . No. They will produce as they we say they can afford to have afew. This is the way every person thinks and that is the reason we have so much problem now.

This is not workable . The best one can do is to ask them to restrict the number of children by some Tax imposition. But countries adopt methods to reward families with more children.

A lot of people already are, actually. A lot of couples decide not to have kids, and you've got the gay community as well.

While what you're suggesting is a great ideal, consider China and Singapore.

Because of the China one-child-per-family policy, they have a shortage of women because almost everybody wanted sons. Daughters were usually aborted. A lot of Chinese young men now are worried they'll be bachelors for life.

A majority of Singaporeans, on their own accord, decided to remain childless because of their career, economic reasons, active sexual lifestyle without commitments etc. Now Singapore's government is seriously concerned because there aren't enough young people to replace the work force that keeps their economy going with so many old people retiring.

If people had good sense and took the time to actually care about the environment and be responsible for the world rather than just treat it as a resource, all the above you mentioned would not be an issue today.

The largest Christian organization fights birth control at every corner? The Fundamentalists fight sex education in the school, and even talking about condoms in public. Some ethnic/racial/religious groups push for more and more children as an aid to world supremacy. And on top of everything else, it's natural and normal for humans to want to reproduce, especially women! (and that's not meant to be sexist, but a statement of the genetic fact).

So, to me your question and solution is a bit simple minded; pretty much the same as our friend Rodney's, "Why can't we all just get along". A nice bit a fluff, but no substance.

AND, if you are blaming babies on the Bible, or Christianity, chum, then think again. Non-Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist based groups produce plenty more children than they can support as well. This is a HUMAN situation.

In some parts of the world, people have babies because they don't have good access to birth control. In other parts of the world, it's because their religions prevent them from using it. And in still others, like the US, it's because we saturate our culture with sex, encourage people to act on their urges without any thought to the consequences, and don't teach young people how to make responsible decisions.

The fact is, wolves and fish and others don't use any form of birth control either. They follow their instincts to mate or lay and fertilize eggs, and when the population grows too large, nature reduces it by disease, famine, etc. We are more self-aware, and can see these consequences coming for us, but we're not very good at choosing not to gratify our immediate urges in order to avoid those consequences.

By the way, I totally disagree with the poster who says that looking to the Bible for answers is scary. Some groups' INTERPRETATIONS of the Bible are scary, but the Christianity Jesus taught is a beautiful thing. For some reason, in some circles, it's OK to put down Christians, but make no mistake, that generalized judgment and antagonism toward all Christians is just as bigoted as hating all Jews or all Muslims.

There are many forces at work in the world that pressure women to have babies, whether or not they are wanted. Religion is one, especially as practiced by Catholics in the third world. Sexism is another; if women have a lot of babies they can't contribute as much to society. Yes, a lot of people have babies because the Bible says they should, and there is a growing number of people looking to the Bible as a source of literal answers. This is pretty scary stuff.

Some people do control the birth of babies , and some have different ideas , it could very well be for religion beliefs or other reasons .

We cannot have a perfect world ! otherwise what would all those perfect people do! They would have no purpouse in life. So let the world turn and let nature be what it always was, after all there is an end for everything , who comes in the world and who leave this world ! That's life right!

Because they can. They just don't want to stop.

It takes someone who is intellectually challenged to make such choices. I have had the opportunity to meet people with no money, no job and no place to live who think getting pregnant is a good thing.

I've met people with all manner of issues from drug addiction to mental health who think becoming pregnant is a good choice. it's *right* after all.

So much for the alleged intelligence of the species.

Difficult to answer, are you the first child, cause just maybe you would not have been here. I know the planet overpopulated and believe me, the governments of the world have plans to take care of that. but, in the seed of each person lies the answer to all our question if allowed to grow, the wicked will cut themselves off. They will eat the dust of the field and drink the blood of one another.
