earlier days the land in between Himalayas-bay of bengal-indian ocean-arabian sea is known as Bharatavarsha/Bhatratakhande but ata later stage somebody called it as India.who is this one?

I think it was the Britishers who did this while they had colonized the country (for over 200 years).They also changed a lot of cities' names (i.e. from Mumbai to Bombay; Kolkata to Calcutta; and Chennai to Madras), but now the Indian gov't has changed the names back to Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai (just to name a few ex.).

I think the name is found first in Herodotus, c. 440 BC,, but it may be even earlier.
Modern India doesn't need this Third-World inferiority complex that changes names. Do the Germans insist everybody call their country Deutschland? Think about it!

India is named for the Indus River which is now mostly in Pakistan. The name is derived from Sindhu, the Sanskrit name of the river, but also meaning "river" generically.

Whoever and whatever be the motive behind changing the name of the country to India, it is time to change it back to Bharat!
