The easiest thing to write about is "write what you know."

A journal would help you write each day.

CP was also correct, pay attention to everything around you. Inspiration is everywhere...a line from a song, a commercial, people around you, the news, nature.

Hope this helps and good luck! Above all, be true to yourself and have fun.

Very good things to keep in mind. Thanks for sharing this. It does make me think of my own story a lot, because I think a lot of this can be applied when trying to decide if an idea is big enough to be a series. That's what happened with my book. Originally it was just meant to be a single novel, but about halfway through writing I realized the ideas just kept coming and the story grew out of being confined to one book. The third point, about plots and subplots---thats what happened to my story. And I've had it happen the opposite way too, where I originally think an idea will make a great novel, then realize there's not enouh material to sustain that many words and it works better as a short story instead. All of these things listed just reaffirm to me that I'm writing my story in the correct format (a trilogy) so I won't be changing that. But I have been playing around with a few ideas in my head that may need to be reworked, so this was very helpful. Thanks again for sharing.

I have to write about something I care passionately about.

Seriously, if you don't care passionately about a subject, you will not be interested enough to do the enormous amount of W-O-R-K it takes to get a novel finished and then edit the problems, mistakes, etc. in the writing. And these days if you want to get something published, it really has to be top notch anymore. Agents and editors don't take the time to develop people the way they did yesteryear.

In my case, I myself came from a dysfunctional family and have spent literally years reading about why dysfunctional and even evil people are the way they are, and about how to have relationships go smoothly. I am always passionate for new knowledge about that.

Unfortunately for me, I'm also passionate about Star Wars. What that added up to was a Star Wars novel in which I redeemed Palpatine. Sad to say I can't ever publish it, because I haven't ever published anything else and I frankly don't care to write anything else.

But I did submit it to the PeaceWriting International Writing Awards last year, and recently they sent me a letter telling me that while they couldn't give it an award because it isn't publishable material, they did think it was "a remarkable achievement."

So, that was something to feel good about.

The point is, writing it was a wonderful and exhilarating experience, and if you don't get that feeling from what you are doing, you won't finish it.

(Of course, it CAN lead you to write utter crap and then fall in love with it and not want to change it ... but that's another matter.)

Good luck.

If u can write about anything so why not start with what u find most comfortable. For example, if u get some story about magic write it. U may later want to come back to it and make a novel out of it by adding more stories.

I would forget about editing and the like for now, invest in a nice journal and write; you are bound to have boundless ideals. Remember there are no rules and besides it is your book!

best of luck!

Look carefully events happening around you. You will get lot of ideas. Write all ideas whatever you get and later organize them. It looks easy but actually you have to do hard work and devote quality time to write anything.
Good luck

I think a story where the lead person was a panda would be really cool, kinda like a fantasy i guess.

You know the toughest thing to write is a political story.
Do you think you would want to try your hand in it?
No pain no gain as they say.
