The egg. The parents were a different species to that of the chickens. The parents had an egg but there was a mutation upon being conceived. This caused there to be a slight difference in genetic information between the parents and its offspring. The characteristics would have been beneficial to the new animal. These characteristics would then have been passed on to the new species offspring, thus creating what is known as "The Chicken" !
Hows that then :)

An egg is a single cell. Single celled plants and animals preceded all of us.
Reptiles and fish were laying eggs before feathers developed.

So--the egg came first--not necessarily a chicken egg but an egg none the less.

The egg. Why? Well two types of bird (or whatever is closest to a chicken) mated and produced an egg, which in turn, created a new species, the chicken. These two original birds keep mating, which would make more chickens.

It is to early in the morning to ponder such craziness. An egg cannot be without a chicken to lay it and a chicken cannot be without an egg inwhich to come from. Without bringing god into this, can we scientifically ever prove which did come first?

God put a handful of clay into a top hat, snapped his invisible fingers, and said "abra cadabra, let there be chicken!"

This is how the chicken was created.

It had to be the egg. Millions of years of evolution would in fact hatch the modern day species of chicken.
