I'm happy your interested in finding independently owned rubber stamp stores.
The big box stores like Michaels or JoAnn's make it very hard for small stores to stay in business, so whenever you can support small business.
You can find a list of independent rubber stamp stores here:
http://www.rubberstampinglinks.com/rubber-stamps-stores-main.html
The stores are listed by state.
But, make sure you call ahead, often the list is out dated and many of the stores have gone out of business.
Have fun!!

If you want really unique stamps, you can make them yourself (with various materials and techniques, depending on the use you want to put them to).

For regular "rubber" rubberstamps, you can make your own by drawing or photocopying any images or text you want to make into a stamp, then send it off to a place called ReadyStamps:
http://www.polyclay.com/ready.htm
... they will send back a sheet of rubber with all your stamps created on it (just cut them apart to use that way, or mount each on something temporarily or permanently).
If you ask them to send the "matrix" too, they'll also include the sheet they used to make the stamps from which would like a *mold* of all your stamps, in case you want to use polymer clay or something else to create raised images, etc.

You can also make your own stamps from polymer clay, and various other materials.

If you're interested in any of those things, there's loads more info on this page:
http://glassattic.com/polymer/stamping.htm

(otherwise, check in the yellow pages on do an online search for places like "scrapbooking" stores, rubberstamping stores, etc.)

The W sign... you know... like Willy Wonka's W! (Its all curvy!!) your favorite japanese/chinese character(my personal fav is the one lacuna coil uses as a symbol.) Your could do a spider web, too! it would be amazing if you could do one of the Kool-Aid man. Or even a partial rainbow with a pot o' gold at the end!

You can find a demonstrator in your area and order form them. I love their products!!! They have some very cool sets and are resonably priced!!! Not too mention everything matches, their ink matches their paper and their chalk, etc.
