Well it is because when a person grows old his brain cells die out. This leads to loss of intelligence / knowledge / memory.
more or less their mental state is comparable to that of a child.
so it is important to treat them like a child.

I am 70, I guess I am considered old by some younger people. But "old" is relative. And I must admit, I am an old relative. But I don't know how to put electric in a meter either. Our electric runs from the transformer on a pole to our meter and then into the house. Am I old fashioned? I have been told what "goes around" "comes around". So maybe you might like to write down the procedure, for future reference for the day when you are old.

It's a great shame that in the length of time you have been on this planet you have not learnt tolerance. If you really want to know or want to lean about life try talking to one of these old (senile ) people, they have been there, done that and have the tea shirt. Of course there is always the danger you may learn some thing if you have enough brain to listen and absorb.

At my old and apparently senile age, I have just come to the conclusion that young people such as yourself seem to enjoy taking pot shots at anyone or anything that is even remotely different from themselves. I am often on another section of answers and have seen the same disrespectful behavior. I may be old...but I have at least achieved the wisdom to know when I am insulting my fellow human beings. Your ignorance and self absorbtion is a sad example of what the future of mankind holds.

Do you go to visit your older relative, when you don't have to run over there to put "electric in a meter"? Do you sit down and talk WITH them and LISTEN TO them? Do you invite them out for the day, just because you enjoy their company, and want to give them a treat? Do you smile at them, even though they are telling you (for the twentieth time) what a very GOOD person you are for helping them?
Personally, I think that you consider your older relatives a bore and a chore, and that you treat them as such.
And I believe completely in karma--what you reap, so shall you sow. You treat your older relatives this way now, and when you are that age, just wait to see how YOU will be treated!

dementia is a complaint that many old people suffer with, and it is a very short memory problem for them. The older you become the more brain cells start dying off. they can also get a sort of plaque builds up on the cells. Believe me, the old people don't want to be a burden to anyone with this complaint, but they can't help the way they are. Their minds become that of a small child. It is heartbreaking to see them like this, as my mother suffered terribly with it. Just be patient and hope it never happens to you in old age.

The two things are not the same.Old does not mean senile. How do you put electric in a meter anyhow? It comes through the cables, surely. Do you mean putting coins in a prepayment meter.? If so,say so.

I suppose they appear that way, because the sort of behaviour they exhibit is the sort that young children do, and we are used to adults behaving in an adult manner. When the brain starts to lose function all manner of things happen to a human being, that they can do nothing about. I hope that when my time comes, I am not too much trouble for my family.I have told them what to do with me if I am!

How can you phrase your question in such a way that it has to be picked apart like a hieroglyphic message?
"put electric in a meter", hmmm--I wonder who the senile person is here???

One day, dear sweet young lady (I assume that is your gender) you too will be old and probably senile, and you may be lucky enough to have a young lady relative who still respects you and understands why you behave the way you do. You won't deserve this, but you may remember how differently you judged the old when you were young.
