Has anybody been to Luxor in Egypt in December? I am thinking of going around Xmas time. If so are there many tourists there, whats the weather like and any hotel recommendations?

I haven't been in December, but I have in February, and it was very nice then - hot, but not too hot, and not massively busy either!

Hotel-wise: the Mina Palace Hotel is a nice hotel if you're looking for somewhere reasonably cheap, but clean and has "safe" food. It has great views too because it's right by the Nile and overlooks Luxor Temple - one room has views of both!

Hope someone else can tell you more about December!

It is the best time of the year to visit Luxor. It is high season at that time, it is sunny and the weather is moderate at day time and a bit cool in the evening. All five stars hotels are very good. If you take the cruise between Luxor and Aswan which is lovely you will not need a hotel, it is full board and really nice. You can spend 2 days in Luxor in a hotel and then take the cruise. In any case you will see all important tempels and tombs with guided tours.

only drawback with december are the prices it is a little expensive, especially at christmas and new year when the prices go through the roof. January and february are cheaper. The hilton is being re-built at this time though it may be open again by december. im not sure. the movenpic is a little way from the town centre as is the sofitel karnak so they have lovely gardens and are quiet but you need a taxi to get to town. There are many other good 4/5 star hotels in town, the sheraton and the sonesta to name two. winter time is peak season for luxor. the weather will be cooler and you will need a jacket at night and cardigan early morning, evening. there are also a number of three star hotels. i prefer the sheraton or the sonesta. mail if you want more info

The best choice Luxor in December
I recommend you Hilton, Movenpick in case you have a choice.
It's the highest season for the south and prices are quite high in Christmas.
Enjoy it and good luck

It is popular at xmas. The weather is not too hot, the evenings can be cold.
Try the Winter Palace Hotel or the Movenpick.
The Sheraton is cheap but not so luxurious.
