I was watching something late night...about Russia and Ivan the great and later came Ivan the terrible...he was nuts and ended up killing his own son after beating his pregnant wife. But it was interesting to learn how Russia became an empire because of these people...the lengths they went to, to conquer, how they built their famous monuments (architects from Italy), all of it....it was really fascinating. Too bad these things don't interest people...I think they should have a 15 minute clip of stuff like this before a movie instead of a half hour full of ridiculous commercials...everything is about money these days I know...but sadly, history will be forgotten as people only study thier own and have zero understanding of other cultures and their impact on today's world. If they did, I think the world would be a lot different. Kids might actually be inspired to use their brains for something other than just the here and now you know?

I also enjoy "Hollywood vs History", when they take an historic drama and dissect the myth from the reality

I know! History channel is amazing! I also like watching Discovery channel, BBC and Freemantle Media, because they have really good documentaries. I actually have a television DVD recorder with 160 GB disk space, in which I record documentaries that I like! I do this one year now and I have collected over 500 documentaries! It's amazing! You could try that too if you like documentaries a lot. It hasn't costed me over 200 euros by far. Bye!

I LOVE this show on Discovery Channel called "Man vs. Wild". It is so awesome! He has to get out of situations like the rainforest and the desert and teaches you how to survive!
I watch it all day a couple of weeks ago, they had on a marathon!!!!!! Most movies today don't have any morals to take from them. They take millions of dollars to make and pay actors and actresses millions of dollars to star in them. They don't really know how to live like a regular person!
This question is AWESOME! Thanks and good luck!

I love those historical programs. Watched one a couple of weeks ago about the "real pirates of the caribbean". If nothing else, having a little knowledge of the historical background of a movie you're watching makes it more interesting.

Wow, that's good for you, your points about clips makes a lot of sense too.

I wished that they did this 30 years ago, when I started getting interested in the history of things.

Good question from you, keep 'em coming.

I love the computer-generated reconstruction of ancient structures, because it helps me understand the miracle of the human mind regarding technology. We think we're so damn smart because we have computers and gasoline-driven engines. I amazes me how so-called primitive peoples built anything without the technology we depend on today. Stonehenge, Pyramids, Great Wall of China, you name it. It just simply amazes me!
