A Pit Viper venom contains peptides and proteins .A bite leads to damage of the vascular cells /tissue and red blood cells . Proteolytic enzymes damages the muscle and are responsible for tissue death .Symptoms are pain , numbness on the tongue , bluing or blackening of the skin .

With a Carol snake bite the venom is primarily a neurotoxin .Swelling is rare . Symptoms may not occur until 10-14 hours after the bite . Where as with pit Vipers it is immediately . Symptoms are nausea, vomiting , difficulty speaking , sweating and lethargy . Both can be fatal .

The venom of the coral snake is a neurotoxin and attacks the central nervous system. Pit viper venom attacks the respiratory system. Neurotoxins work really fast.

I believe the coral snake venom is a neurotoxin, while the viper venom is most commonly contain cytotoxins and/or hemotoxins, causing tissue damage and affecting the blood clotting ability.
