If it is a DIVIDING WALL Which would mean
that it is on the property Line ANYTHING
That is on YOUR side No longer belongs to him.
It is no longer Only his wall. If the wall is solely on HIS
property Erect your Trellis on Your property.
You can be a real Pain in the axx if you want to.
If the markers that delineate your property are not there
You can simply inform your neighbor to pay for a survey
and PROVE you are in fact on his property.
Worse case you may have to move your trellis
Put your trellis back if wou wish just make sure it is not on his property I know of no law that prohibits you from useing your own property. Unless it is a zoneing or association rule.
You can also ask him just which law he is referring to
CHANCES ARE HE WILL FIND NOTHING.
The onus of proof is upon him.
It just seems to me that he is being very petty about something that does him little or no harm being a good neighbor you may wish to confront him with this fact.
And you may be able to resolve the issue between yourselves
While you may be able to technically WIN the battle
Is the war really worth it? You will both sill have to live next to each other.

The foundations for his building will be up to his boundary, the wall he has built on those foundations will be about 10cm from the edge of the foundations therefore the wall of his extension will be within the bounds of his property so if you attach anything to his wall you are encroaching over his boundary line and he has a legal right to prevent you from doing so.
Your best option is to erect some posts and fix a trellis to them

If you mean you attached trellis to his extension without permission then it is his right to demand you remove it. You need to find out if the dividing fence was yours or his. To discover this you need to look at the deeds to the house. Many people do not know which fence is theirs and which isn't. If it was your fence he removed according to the deeds, then you can have another fence put there and attach what ever you like to it.

This question first made me wonder who owned the "dividing fence"....and on whose property was it on? I assume though since its his extension ?? it is on his property then no you can't put anything on it. You could go on that side in your yard though and erect a trellis and put it back up and shame on them for being that way.

call the city by-law office,,, if he has a building or has constructed something right on the border of the property( without a permit), he may have been doing something against the law... there is a building code about how close to the property line you can build a structure....

If your neighbour as put up the extension then yes he is right. He could legally force you to remove or repair any damage if any was caused.

It all depends on what side it is on .your are responsible
for the right hand side so the left hand side of you is his
responsibility. You can always put up a double fence as long as it dose not touch his then you can put up your trellis.
not a very compromising neighbour.
