The rear view mirror seams to be extremely hard to take off of the windshield mount. I am not talking about the part that is glued to the windshield. This is a GM type mirror that seams to be a very heavy duty spring making it stuck to the windshield mount.

This mirror does not have the torx screw. It has the spring.

Just slip a 1/8 inch small screw driver blade into the notch bottom of the mirror mount to depress the spring and tap lightly upward 16 oz ball peen hammer next to the screwdriver to slide it up and off of the windshield shoe. Don't hit the glass.

Many have a small set screw in the attaching part, can be any of allen, torx, flat, or philips screw. Its usually on the front of the guide block, but you may find it on the sides, top, or bottom also. If it is a spring type, which I've only found on Ford, you just have to be very careful not to break the windshield while removing it, and there should be small gaps where you can insert paper clips to help reduce the friction on the spring.

It should have a screw to remove. Go to your local parts store b4 a dealer ask for instructions with the car there obviously. Make sure u get the correct replacement may need to be the dealer... then totally clean the area, get the right glue follow all the steps, keep in the shade and glue, screw it back on the correct plate. Watch the direction it is easy to replace up side down. I had a Chevy Corsica and had to replace mine when it fell off in the hot summers heat. Good luck.

depending on what kind of car you're talking about, there should be a tiny allen screw holding the mirror base to the little mount...loosen that screw and the base slides up and off the mount. a lot of manufacturers used that design for a long time...
