hurt the cause and message of equality that the parade is supposed to represent?

I agree. Other groups that fought for theyre civil rights dressed respectfully and took it seriously. I have no problem with transgendered dressware either if you want to dress like a woman dress the way a respectable woman would at a political rally not like a hoe and vice versa for women to men. No more of these multi-colored vulture men from mars or whatever the hell they are trying to be. Activism shouldnt be fun. If you arnt willing to fight (emphasis on fight!) for your rights then you dont deserve them. I may be a straight acting gay guy with values but i love and am attracted to effeminate men so there is no hate here. If you want to have fun then seperate it from being a portrayel of us..which it currently is! and have a seperate REAL pride that is a civil rights march not a parade.

I feel ripped off, nobody got naked at the parade in my city or even did anything considered outrageous unless of course holding hands or kissing falls in that category now. Sheesh it's just a big party and if people cut loose a bit who cares? I saw people getting naked in the street when the red sox won the world series but nobody is condeming them. Why is that? It's not just gay people that can get a little rowdy now and then straight people can too and to think otherwise is foolish. While I'm no big fan of the public nudity per se I'd rather we be able to act just as stupid as our straight counterparts if we so choose and not suffer any worse punishment than they do. As others have said if we are going to judge everyone based on one festivity per year, then what does that say about the OUTRAGEOUS behavior of those at mardi gras? It's just a once a year event, get over it. Why spend energy worrying about it? If you don't like it don't go, it's just that simple.

I agree. Gay parades are supposed to be about visibility and gaining rights. For gays to get rights, society needs to see that gays are normal and just like them. Society needs proof that gays are not sexual perverts before they are willing to give them *ANY* rights. Going out of the way to prove society right will never win them any rights.

There is nothing wrong with "being crazy" and having fun. But you can do that without drugs, without sex, without alcohol, and without taking off your clothes. I have plenty of fun without any of the above. If you have to do all that in order to have fun, maybe that is a sign that you are living a lifestyle that is killing your spirit and emotions. Nudity can also be a symptom of demonic control, though I'm sure most here don't believe in demons (other than Fred Phelps and various hatemongers).

Lets compare Gay pride parades to this scenario. Lets suppose that racial minorities are tired of racism (and they are, and rightfully so). Now, what are the stereotypes people have of them? Maybe that they are violent, rape, and tear up stuff. So if they don't want this stereotype, and they want the rights that come from not having this stereotype, what should they do? Band as a community against crime and everything people accuse them of doing more than Whites? Or should they embrace the stereotypes and kill, rape, rob, burn, and destroy everyone and everything in sight? Would the latter prove the critics wrong or reinforce them as being right? Would hosting a yearly riot help their cause?

One's rewards or getaways should never include things that run counter to one's goals. So you've had a good week dieting, don't spoil it with a celebration based on unhealthy food. If you want ANY rights, then NEVER have a celebration based on things that the people who refuse to give you rights find objectionable. Never ever give your critics ANY excuse.

No and here is why, I don't believe the gay pride parade is to convince anyone that being gay is "okay". I think it is more about letting loose, having fun, and being happy with who you are because the rest of the year the "issues" are always being brought up and protested. I feel like it is the one time when you can let your hair down and not be on the defensive. It's not meant to be taken seriously by homophobes it is just meant to have fun!

Gay Pride Parades are all about fun. I think that society as a whole has gone back instead of forward in tolerance toward gays. Late 60's early 70's we were more tolerable of the same behavior.

Yes unfortunately. You couldn't have said it any better.

I mean, I know that they are just being creative and all, and some are actually fun and refreshing to look at.

But there is always a thin line between art and being a little too vulgar. that is why they are being hounded by a lot of self-righteous so called 'Christians' (and there are a lot out there)

Will equality of the sexes (same sex marriage, etc..) that they have so gloriously fought for be won someday?

Unfortunately for them, not by a long shot.

I am not a hater, I am just stating what I see.

Mari Gras -- New Orleans, LA USA
Mari Gras -- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

And the list does go on and on.

In the prudish stuck up US I suppose it would be better if everyone went down the street in business suits and held 8 1/2" x 11" pages with ultra small writing on the expousing the ideas of gay pride.

Don't know. Shall we run it up the flag pole and see who saluties?

All in favor of Business Suits and little signs?
answeres were varied but all amounted to the same thing go find a short pier and take a long walk.

All in favor of leaving the Gay Pride parades alone as a show of self expression?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say that GAY PRIDE PARADE is like another Halloween for the Gay Community and it's an opportunity for gay folks to go wild and crazy for a weekend. I don't see nothing wrong with that. GAY PRIDE is not a representation of ALL gays and lesbians ideas and ways of life. IT's just a freebie day to act the fool and have fun and then on monday morning back to work. Good Luck

I think in any group, there are extremes in behavior and personality. I think it is important to be tolerant of those with different values and cultures. In Brazil, every year the Maddi Grass parade draws pretty bizarre outfits, near nudity and different behavior. For that matter, so does New Orleans' Maddi Grass.
If it is offensive to your sensibilities, stay away. You are not forced to watch. This is America where the Bill of Rights protects EVERYONE RIGHTS, not just the ones you agree with.
If may be outrageous, obnoxious behavior to you, but you can't deny theri right to assemble.

Causes and conditions. Oppression tends to cause some people to want to take the thing that bugs the oppressors the most and shove it in their face. Nothing hurts the "cause and message" other than hate and ignorance based off of a certain set of egos.
