JHi,

the best answer is 'no!' The English language, its grammatical form and its many words are understood because they are just that...English.

However, the effect of changing the language has happened and is still happening...In the USA they have changed the spellings of many words from their original 'English' english.
many of these changes do make perfect sense, we, as English, spell many words with an 'our' at the end 'honour', 'rancour', and so on...Americans use 'honor, 'rancor' etc. There is nothing wrong with this and, in the present day, it makes infinitely more sense.

Language also is changing with the introduction of technology. Discs/disks, programmes/programs, etc. This however, doesn't change the essential need for rules to enable the language to be understood by all.

I personally hate the modern 'texting' formats (sometimes used on 'Yahoo answers') where words are reformatted into things like 'send 4 this', I h8 pizzas', and other excruciatingly bad examples of language torture.

Not only does it make the message difficult to read and understand, but it doesn't even save any time! My mobile 'phone makes me take far longer to put 'H8' than it does to write the full word, 'hate'.

You will see, if you read 'Yahoo answers', every day many examples of atrociously written and difficult to interpret questions.

These are the 'own ways of putting sentences together' you mention. Sometimes I cannot tell what the asker is asking, as the sentence formation is so bad. At the very least there is a demonstrated disadvantage of 'putting them together in 'your own way' as, if I cannot understand the question, I cannot answer it, so it's a waste of time to create your own version of English.

English has been around for many centuries and has formulated clear and practical ways of expression that can be understood by any English speaker in any part of the world. Spelling variations, though sometimes possibly dangerous, can usually be understood, but poor grammar is rarely understood and can lead to major misunderstandings.

Hope I don't sound too pompous, but I do care about our language, which is capable of expressing thoughts in a beautiful and clear manner. Beautiful poetry, masterful literature have entertained and provoked my thoughts for more than 60 years, now. I hate to see it mangled and trampled into modern 'popspeak'.

Cheers,

BobSpain

No.

Proponents of "creative spelling" are just trying to give themselves an excuse for not being able to spell. Some of them cannot structure a sentence so readers can understand what the writer is saying. All too often the "answer" to a question here is, "What is your question?"

If we sanction "creative spelling" what is the use of a dictionary or spell-checker? Besides, no one has to be "allowed" to create his own spelling. People are already doing it, if inadvertently.

Isent thaht rite?

nicely it relies upon. while you're writing an essay, document, article etc... then you definitely could spell words wisely and use suited grammar. in spite of the undeniable fact that, while you're writing a fictional tale then you definitely can use slightly extra creativity. you ought to write with a minimalist type corresponding to Chuck Palahniuk, or without fullstops like Jack Kerouac. in case you will make up words in fictional memories, you ought to describe what they mean in the previous shifting extra beneficial into the story. i've got faith it grew to become into in 1875 whilst an author got here up with the be conscious snigger (a blend of chortle & snicker), so words could nicely be invented. i think of suited communique is important. without it, no you may still comprehend one yet another. Society could self destruct if everyone desperate to make up words, fairly whilst there are already words that exist with maximum meanings. So i assume my opinion in this depend, isn't any, people shouldn't create their own spelling of words, nor could they deliver new sentence structures. in spite of the undeniable fact that, I say this with exception to imaginitive writing.

I think it is fine to write in your own style a la e.e. cummings or Emily Dickinson as long as it is confined to your creative genre. In everyday life, including Yahoo, I truly believe people should strive for routine grammar and spelling. On a forum such as this, however, that includes being able to use accepted acronyms such LMAO. Although in this case, I'm serious. ;-)

"Allowed"?

Well, there's no authority around who is going to prevent you from writing however you want to (unless you count teachers, who will quite properly dock your grade for failing to conform to standard spelling and grammar).

But unless you want to look like an idiot, or be unable to communicate clearly, or both, you should save your creativity for WHAT you say rather than HOW you say it.

That's already been done. Just look around at some of the questions on this site, and you'll see plenty of examples.

No. If you want to communicate to others, there has to be one way to do so. You could be misunderstood. Communication is so important
