Yes - the only way they don't pay for owner-inflicted damage is if they believe it was intentional. Accidents happen - thats why we have insurance.

Normally you can. As long as you do not make a habit of filing claims, most insurance companies will pay for things like this. As mentioned, most policies have deductables so you may want to look at the amount of damage before filing a claim. If their portion is a small amount, you may not want to file as this (even though small) will be a claim filed.

It couldn't hurt to ask. I know someone who accidentally kicked over a shop light when painting and melted the carpet and it was replaced. I also claimed, and was paid for, burned carpet when my husband left the iron on and it fell to the floor scorching the carpet.

Of course you can, thats what home insurance is for. Most policies have deductibles though.
