You've just given the answer. You have the freedom, though limited. You have good knowledge of the holy book(or so it seems)In his own image and likeness he made us therefore what is generally accepted as good ought to be good for God (if what we are told in this book is true).

What we think is good is flaughted. If you have a seared conscience then how can anything you think is good be what God wants. When a muslim straps on a bomb and goes into a market place and blows up his fellow citizens he has to feel that he is doing the right thing. So he is sincere, but sincerity alone is not enough. He feels he is doing the will of God.
That is why we have the bible, to tell us what the will of god really is. Eve wanted to decide for herself what is good and what is bad. Cost her, her life.
ONly God can decide what is good and what is bad.
Before the flood God looked down and said, "The end of mankind is before me because the earth is full of violence because of them." So he doesn't like violence.
Jesus said he would destory the wicked but he no where said, "you should go destory the wicked"
So we are not the ones to choose who is the wicked and then kill them or make war with them.
Does God say that sex outside of marriage is a sin?
Does God say that stealing is a sin?
Adultry, murder are sins. Don't change murder into are we killers, when someone dies that's murder.
Does our country have something in place to take care of senior citizens so older people who can't work can live with dignity? I think taking care of older people is part of our worship to God. Also, those not able to care for themselves.
Yet some people are against programs to help the elderly.
I think that is a sin. We really need to put up the Ten commandments and then live by them. What was God trying to tell us when he wrote that?

You're asking questions that have a name. They're called "universal" or "fundamental" questions. These are questions that can't be scientifically resolved, but which are important to all human beings. At this point, I'm sure you know the basics of what being a good person means. This doesn't mean you're expected to be an angel. But if you respect other people, don't be intentionally mean, and don't commit any crimes, you'll certainly at least pass as good.

We just do the best we can. God understands if we're really trying. He looks into our hearts.
