Being soft is the correct mode of behavior in most life situations. There is usually no need to assert any dominance or will on another human unless it is absolutely necessary.

Only attempt to assert your will on others after you have exhausted other avenues of compromise or appeasement.

Even then, be judicious in the application.

Being soft is a good trait, as far as I'm concerned. I wish I were.

You can get stepped on!!

You need to overcome the thought that telling the truth to someone (or telling them the "brutal facts") is often the best thing you can do for someone, even if they don't want to hear it.

You end up getting walked on and used. You kind of have to find a happy medium for being giving to others. There are so many people that take advantage of a good heart in this world. The ones that don't appreciate it I wouldn't do it for. You can help others, but just remember to look out for yourself as well.

losses: you get left behind, always the last one to be recognised, first one to be bullied and taken for granted... the list is endless.

I want to say however that you can still be soft but assertive. You first need to know what you want and then go for it in your soft, gentle ways ...

.....The benefit - you avoid hurting people's feelings, a benefit to you and to them

The losses - sometimes you're afraid to say what you mean, so people will often misunderstand or misinterpret your intentions...things go unsaid which need to be said, a lost opportunity
