My other half. I was shocked to find out my mom wasn't a very good cook later in life. Most boys grow up believing Mom was the ultimate person in all ways, and I still some of her plain cooking, but finally came to the shocking realization she never learned how to cook. It was a shock. Truthfully, I'm a better cook, and love to prepare fancy meals for my sweetie.

My previous other 1/2 was a great cook when she cooked, but she rarely did.

I'm a good cook.

My sister's a good cook.

Neither my mother nor step-mother are good cooks. Both live in fairly limited head-space.

My mom is sort of "meat and potatoes." That's fine, but she doesn't have much of a clue as to freshness or culinary prowess. You can eat meat and potatoes every day, but hers are rather boring a la pork chops, boiled frozen veggies, maybe some boiled potatoes.

My step-mother has a much broader knowledge of food, yet is not very good at cooking it. Lots of over-boiled veggies. She also cheaps out on food buy using margarine instead of butter, Miracle Whip instead of mayonaisse, processed cheese instead of cheese, stuff like that. It's not even actually cheaper, but she uses that "cheap" taste. My dad finally found his cheap whore wife when he got remarried and only now that sex is out of the picture is he sort of complaining about it.

The gap between the way my "parents" and my sister and I see food is enormous.
