I recently found a money tree plant that had been thrown out, it still seems to be healthy and I have re-potted it but it's previous owner chopped a lot of the branches off, there is still quite a lot of new growth on it. Please can anyone advise me as to the best way to care for it? Despite having branches cut off, will it re-grow? Will it survive? I know nothing about these plants, I took it in as I thought it was a shame that it was thrown out. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks, from Molly

It will be fine. They don't like being over watered, so let the soil dry out completely before you water preferably a month. I have loads of these plants. 2 of which have been living in the garden in a shaded part since the risk of frost has gone. However, they are normally an indoor plant in the UK. If you over water them they will get leggy and stop producing roots.

They are a succulent, and do have a dormant period like cacti in the winter. If you put the plant in the sun its leaves will turn a reddish colour.

When old enough and if given enough light, the plant will produce a small white flower and seeds. In the summer they can live outdoors, but being a desert plant they don't like the cold, so bring them inside in winter.

Some other people have said that the Jade plant and the money plant are different plants. They are the same. Crassula ovata.

It is a succulent, so treat as you would any other succulent. It quite enjoys some food now and then and I water mine only when the 'leaves' start to look a bit wrinkly. The plant will survive, but it might not look all that good shape-wise. It is probably taking off a couple of the 'leaves' and putting them (narrow end down) into a good compost. This will provide you with new plants which you can care for and keep in shape.

I've recently rescued a standard and a bush weeping fig - any ideas?????

They are so easy to grow even if you cut if a small branch and planted it, it will grow. Also you must put one at the front door and one at the back, for good fortune.

I'm not sure if you have a jade, or a money tree, they are 2 different plants. Jades grow very easily, just don't water it too much
