Not really. It terminates the DSL side of your phone line. Depending on your phone company, they may be expecting the modem to be there and start looking for problems if they don't see it.
Leaving it on will also extend the life of your equipment.
Devices that get turned on and off all the time generally have a shorter life expectancy. Failures occur for many reasons, but the two biggest are the repeated heating and cooling of devices in the circuit, and the small surge that goes through the device during the first fraction of a second after it receives power.

Many users opt to leave there Modems on 24-7 I do. However as long as you have your security inplace etc. Firewall and Virus Protection you will be fine.
Remember an APC or Battery Back-up is money well spent if you are connected 24-7 this will help from frying equipment during storms when you are not home.

you can leave them on forever really. They dont really respire heat to damage it over long periods of time. I have had mine for 3 yrs and i onlt turn it off when i need to like moving it around. Its working fine.
