Gorden Brown and George Bush want to make the moderates stronger in the middle east.

How when poitics is so divisive - and where the extremes on both sides are of the opinion that you are either for us or against us..or that you either agree with Isreal or you're a anti semite etc...or you are either muslim or you're a godless infidel - can they possibly strengthen the moderates?

Also it appears that Tony Blair is possibly going to be envoy to the middle east from the unted nations..

How do you think he'll do? Bearing in mind he has actually had some success in Northern Ireland, getting two bitterely opposing sides of the religious spectrum talking to each other?

Radicals are inspired and empowered by the US and British military presence in the middle east. Ending that would be a great start. I can't imagine any good that Blair can do for the middle east or himself. Bush will not let Blair off his leash and may even use a choke collar on the poor poodle. Instead, Blair should lap up some of the lucrative business offers that are likely to come his way. That's what US politicians such as Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Giuliani have done and it's worked out very well for them.

First, the approval of the US or Briatain is the kiss of death for any Arabic politician in the Middle East at the moment. He might as well shoot himself and spare his family, friends and bodyguards from being caught in the blast when someone does get him.

The best thing the West can do at the moment is stop meddling. They have probably with their actions since the 1950's (When the CIA overthrew the President of Iran and replaced him with the Shah) the set the cause of moderate politics back 100 years. I won't mention Israel and Palestine, since that is another can of worms.

Although I like the idea of appointing Tony B. Liar as special envoy, preferably after we have withdrawn all our troops and diplomatic presence from the Middle East.

Make the moderate voice louder. Most moderate Muslims are afraid to speak out against the radicals but if they realize the moderates out number the radicals, hopefully, they will be more willing to stand up for themselves.
