Get gp to check for fibroids. That was the cause of my period problems for many years and I suffered unnecessarily because a male gp had no sympathy or understanding. With "female" problems its best to see a female gp - sorry, but males just dont understand the discomfort, pain, hormone problems and embarrassment problem periods cause. Get a referral to a gynaecologist if you feel things are not improving. All these bloody hormone tablet they prescribe are a waste of time. (I'm 50 now, had hysterectomy at 35 and it was the best days work I ever did. Had period problems right through from my teens.)

It could have something to do with menopause but the only way to know for sure is to see the dr but because a few drs have already said nothing is wrong I would recommend getting yet another opinion. One thing that next opinion dr may have to do is to check your hormone levels to see if they are playing in to these heavy periods.

I had that from the age of 40 onwards, My dr, sent me to see a specialist, I had very large fibroids, & my womb was tilted, I had had my last child wen I was 41 they said they could give me tablets to ease the blood flow, but I refused as I had already had them, the blood I was loosing, I was not making up again, so I was very very anemic, It was suggested I have a Hystorectomy , I jumped at the chance,{ best thing I ever did. } as I was even wearing Babies throw away nappies !! so go back to the dr, ask to see a specialist, good luck

You might have endometriosis. Get a second opinion. They should perform a laperoscopy to diagnose this.
Don't give up, keep fighting to be diagnosed. It took me almost 5 years before I got a specialist who found out what was wrong. Now life is manageable again.
Good luck. xx
