I saw someone else had mentioned the Bonobo and had mentioned that they had homosexual sex and that they were incestuous. Quite frankly, this is incorrect. Bonobos live in a confined arboreal/swampy environment and because of being in closer proximities they have experienced a cultural evolution towards using sexual contact as a diffuser to social conflict. Males are known to do what is called "penis fencing", whereby if they find themselves in a tense situation (say a conflict over some food that they both found at around the same time) then they will hit their penises against each other to diffuse the tension and then will partake in exploring and eating the food together. Contrast this with Chimpanzees where the more dominant member will threat display to drive the other individual off and then will take the food just for himself/herself and sometimes this will elevate into a full fledged fight disrupting the entire group as alliances will frequently be called into action. Even if a male were to mount another in Bonobos (a sign of dominance) he still would not have homosexual sex. They are also VERY aware of their familia connections and would not have incestuous sex. They will conduct penis fencing or female genital rubbing within kin but you would not see a reproductively capable kin having intercourse. Like I said, they know their relatives and their is also migration of reproductively capable individuals to promote gene flow and to prevent such occurences.

All that said, indeed Bonobos are the MOST sexed up group of primates in the world simply because it has become their course for conflict avoidance and reconciliation. Because of this they are coined as being the only 100% bisexual population on the planet, and while other species do masterbate (like humans) bonobos are the masters of masterbating.

I've heard of many other male speicies masturbating ie chimps, dogs, horses, emus, etc, however I'm not to sure about the female of these species. I suspect they do, however, like female humans they probably deny it and have a w@nk when the kids have gone to school.

I was just thinking about masterbating (the word, not the act). LOL.

Ummm, I've seen monkey's scratching down there. It never occured to me that they may be masterbating.

No I saw a monkey in London zoo masturbating, he was about the size of my hand and he was sort of laughing at the people walking by and watching. Really weird.

Coincidentally, I currently live in Gibraltar.

No, i remember when i went to seaworld in Florida a walrus had ingeniously found a way to do it using a giant cable reel (like a cotton reel only bigger) to masturbate. Hand to god, my sister wouldn't stop laughing for half an hour. It was in the section where you can see them underwater through Plexiglas.

Lots of animals do. The Sun Bears at the St. Louis Zoo are famous for it. They sit right out in public and stroke their (obviously erect) genitalia.
