2 Technic 1200 or 1210 turntables, 2 slip-mats, and a Vestax Mixer plus all the cables for hooking it together. (Brand new, you are going to spend about $1300.00 on this part, but you can find used for cheaper. I suggest sucking it up and buying new Technics over used ones or a cheaper table like Gemini. This is the most important part of your gear, don't go cheap. Technics are the best, and you will never regret them. Better to get a used mixer and upgrade that when you get better, but start with good tables)
You'll also want hard-cases for your tables if you are going to move them. You will probably want separate cases (instead of a coffin-style single case) unless you have a large station-wagon. (The prices on this vary, but you won't need the cases until you are good enough to take your tables somewhere to DJ... at first you will be learning and practicing at home, so you don't need the cases right off the bat).
You will also need a sturdy table (the folding cafeteria-style tables work ok) for your setup... but you definitely want something that won't shake around while you are scratching. A level (the tool) is also handy to have, so that you can prop 1 or more legs of your table if your floor isn't level... it makes a difference. (You might have a table that will work for this purpose around your house. You might all ready have a level as well. You don't need a folding table until you are going to be taking your set-up elsewhere to play, which won't be until you have some skills).
Other than that, you will need a receiver with the proper watts, speakers, headphones, and a lot of vinyls. Make sure you get AT LEAST doubles of any records you really want to spin. (OK, you can spend anywhere from $100-$1200 on the receiver. Maybe you all ready have one for your home stereo or home theater system. You can start out using this one. If you don't have one, you can buy one, and this is something you can get used since it isn't an integral part of your DJ equipment. Headphones, again, you probably have some all ready that you can use. If not, you can start with cheap ones, and eventually get really nice DJ headphones for about $100+... vinyls you can spend THOUSANDS of dollars on, depending on how much music you like... start off with SUPER CHEAP used records for learning. You don't want to scratch-up and ruin rare hip-hop records for learning. Check out your local Goodwill or used record store, and get doubles of cheap used records so you can learn to juggle beats... doesn't have to be hip-hop you can use different kinds for learning).
You could also use a metronome (which you can adjust to click out different BPMs - beats per minute) this can help you learn how to match beats/tempos between the two albums you are trying to transition. Obviously you wouldn't use this to perform, but it is a good learning tool. (get a metronome for between $25 - $100, also something you can get used, or for cheaper).
Good Luck! DJing is really fun, and worth the investment!
