Well, when you have a birthday it doesn't mean that you're one year closer to death.
You could die anytime.
That kind of makes me sound like a sad person, but eh it's the truth.
but anyways, I've heard birthdays were celebrated because people were afraid that evil spirits were "attracted" to them on the date they were born, so on their birthday they would have their friends and family come over and give the birthday person good wishes and whatnot, and also presents to help ward of evil spirits. that's what i heard, but idk.
i'm sure there are a whole bunch of other things too.
well have a good one.

Closer to Death..I dont understand...Don't think that way..I donot know your religious beliefs. Yet, everyday we wake up God has let us share a day of life with our loved ones and visa-versa. But, celebration of our birthdays has nothing to do with being closer to death because we can die at the age of 2 or the age of 17 to the age of 104. So really we celebrate because we are happy that God gave us that day as "YOUR DAY" and I know that people will remember me on that day..because they will say... "Hey!!! What is today? and people will say, "Tuesday or whatever day it is" ..and you say, "No the date!!" and they say, "Such date!!" and you will say. Hey!!!, This is so and so BIRTHDAY!!...you see and would you have never thought of them if it wasnt that day..get it..!!!
So there, be happy and think happy thoughts instead having to leave this place just yet..not saying that the next life isnt just as wonderful. Have a Great day..and bake a cake...have fun!

One year closer to death but also celebrating surviving another year of craziness. Well, really it's another reason to celebrate.

We note the fact that we survived another year with a celebration, and we hope to celebrate again the next year. that is an important part of birthday celebrations.

Mabye theie celebrating the fact that they are still alive and kickn', at least that is probaly how it got started and now it's more of a tradition. Myself, I don't even feel the need to tell anybody it's my birthday, but it's nice to hear a happybirthday!-It kinda let's you know people are thinking about you. When your a kid it's PRESENTS and CAKE, or Pizza!-So birthday's were awesome-not so much anymore, just like every other holiday.

believe it or not, some people don't even get to live for a year. We celebrate our birthdays becasue we were lucky enough to survive the year without leaving our loved ones. You have to look at the positive part of life, and that is living each moment with the one you cherish, for it can end at any moment...........

Cause it's also one more year you didn't die. You could die at any moment for any number of reasons, so that one year closer to death doesn't really matter. It's not like you come with a date stamped on you saying you're going to die at such and such an age, fact is you don't know when you'll die. Could be you'll die within minutes of your birth, could be you'll die when your fifteen, or could be you'll live to see ninety-two and die a month later. With various viruses, diseases, accidents, and murder, there's no real way to say when you die.
But you're birthday says you survived another year.

You must be a glass half empty person.
It is to celebrate that God has given you another year of life to live. Stop being so pessimistic and go out and enjoy the time that you do have.

if ure thinkin that way, ud be depressed all day saying "another DAY closer to death." or u could say that about every holiday, so thats really not a good way to judge birthdays, cause it can be said for every other day of the year too... :P
