I heard a bill is going through congress that will impose a tax on overweight individuals to compensate for the additional cost they create in healthcare, and carbon dioxide emissions from passing gas. Do you support this?

So how is this going to work?

As weight by itself is not an accurate measurement of fat.

The only accurate measurement is Hydrodensitometry Weighing (Underwater Weighing).

Last I checked these sessions weren't cheap, and doing one of these for every American Citizen? HAHA.

It will never work and anyone who has a medical condition that makes them overweight will suffer unless there is an exception.

Stupid Idea.

If that were true it would be entirely stupid, but I'm guessing you are making it up anyway. Many people pay little or no income tax, so how would they be taxed?...their grocery bill? As for carbon emissions (what a scam!!), maybe that should be attached to the receipt of anyone eating in a Mexican restaurant.

Now if you want to talk about higher co-pays on the insurance of overweight people...then you may be on to something.

Only if fatheads get taxed for their intolerance. How about taxing parachute jumpers and motorcycle riders for putting their lives at risk unnecessarily? Next we can tax all of the professional athletes for the extra stress and strain they put on their bodies. How about an exercise tax for all of those joggers who release carbon dioxide and sweat, not to mention the risk they incur to themselves and traffic! (especially at intersections!) How about a beer tax for the eventual liver transplants heavy drinkers will inevitably need? Speaking of carbon emissions, how about all those plant growers? Plants release carbon dioxide in the evenings? How about a Hummer tax? Face it, we can tax everybody to death without even trying already. If you want to encourage healthy choices, put the taxes where they belong. Every time a hungry hippo frozen meal is sold, tax the corporation that filled it full of MSG, high fructose corn syrup, and animal by products filled with steroids and antibiotics. This is the typical Modern American Attitude. Punish the junkie and reward the pushers!

No "Some" people actually have a health problem and they can not control the weight gain. But what ever your vice no sweat soon the gov. will enfringe upon your right too! It amazes me how someone can say a few words and the masses take it take it to the hilt. People are so predictable and the gov uses fear factors and lies to control you. People still haven't figured out that the outside air they breath is far more damaging to their health than cigarette smoke. My grand parents smoked, my parents smoked,I have been exposed to smoke from the day I was concieved and I have been very healthy all of my life. I haven't seen a doctor in over ten yrs!
Over 4 billion pounds of toxic chemicals are released by industry into the nation's environment each year, including 72 million pounds of recognized carcinogens.
And that is just the tip of the ice berg!

Yes definately and also ugly people - how often have ugly people caused accidents as you lurch away in disgust ? They should be taxed more for the damage they cause to the environment.

Have I told you about the new Scottish ginger tax that Gordon Brown is planning ?

Why not, however I am on a group insurance plan and our rates are high because of old people so lets tax people based on their age too

Yes, I do. I also support the amendment to the bill that taxes bigots and hatemongers for the increased costs of law enforcement, street cleaning and wasted education.

I dunno, but i do reckon on things like planes, buses and trains something should be done! although i acknowledge it'd be difficult - a sensitive issue, and it's not viable to weigh people etc, an example:
when i was going to france, myself weighing 50 kg, only allowed 20kg of luggage, and then a large man beside me, weighing an upwards of 100kg is allowed the same amount!

haha it's all trivial, it matter of such governments won't do anything - can you imagine the public outcry!?!

anyway, back to my history assignment (i'm a procrastinator from way back!!)

No. It would be impossible to enforce. The extra money we spend on law enforcement and procescuting them would more than outweigh the benefits of a tax.

I wouldn't surprise me, now that studies are showing that over 50% of us are overweight. I wouldn't put it past the govenment to have planned this all along..."Fatten up, make the serving sizes bigger.....THEN we'll tax their fat!!!
Mwahahahahahahaha" ;-)
