There are so many interpretations of how and why Hitler came to be the person that he was but most of the time, it is generally accepted that he was just the outcome of such a turbulent time in history and society.

His childhood had something to do with the formation of his personality; his father was a strict civil servant while his mother was an affectionate but ultimately weak young woman who died when Hitler was still very young and probably this affected his mind psychologically.

Also, the loss of his parents amongst other things led to the formation of what was essentially a very angry and frustrated young man. Rejection was a key factor in his early life, he was a struggling art student living in Vienna where many rejected him as a poor artist with very little talent. Vienna had a large Jewish population and possibly as a result of envy and mingled social attitudes adopted from his family or his countrymen, Hitler became anti-Semitic, leading to his terrifying ambition of assembling a 'pure' Aryan race.

The events of WWI and the subsequent defeat of Germany led to chaos and discontent in Germany; unemployment was rising, money was made worthless due to hyperinflation and the country was humiliated at the Treaty of Versailles which basically tore Germany to pieces economically due to the high amount of war debts it had to pay for its role in the war. This sense of anger and frustration easily set the stage for Hitler's road to power. By 1933, with the help of the Great Depression in America, the weakness of the German government and the chaos inflicted by the Treaty of Versailles and his own political skill, Hitler was made Chancellor and dictator of Germany - leading to the most terrifying events that have ever taken place in modern history.

Yes, the daily Adolf Hitler question on YA. Did you try reading the book "Mein Kampf"? You may find the answer there in his own book, and in his own words. Here you will just find crackpot answers. I think he was a failed corporal who suffered from delusion. Not everyone was accepted into the Prussian military elite. So much for the superiority of the Aryan race and so much for the "One Thousand -Year Reich" - it lasted 12 years. Why were the others who followed him the way they were?

Hi,
I'm doing a project at the moment on the Holocaust so I can really help you, I've just written a bit about Adolf Hitler's anti-Semitism myself! His family and religious beliefs affected the way he perceived Jewish people so it can be traced back to his childhood.

His whole story is a bit too long to repeat so I suggest you visit this website and read this essay, it will give you a bit more information about the Holocaust too:

Good luck with everything, if you've got any more questions then don't hesitate to ask me - as long as they're not too hard!

he was a sick person in mind! when someone starts killing ppl for power and to ''free'' his own ppl, well, he's actually in favour of his own self! he did what he did because there where voices in his head telling him it's right!!! what kind of conscience tells him that? personally i think he wasn't thinking at all! it's on eof these cases when the devil or an evol power if you prefer, dwels in you since the day you were born and if something messes up in your head or heart- e.g. family problems- then this dark force shows up! so, it's not JUST family issues or love issues like other ppl answered before me. i know ppl who have been through hell where they were children inside heir family and somehow they managed to win and live the life of a happy person. hitler had the crazy idea that killing and satisfying your ego makes him happy!

Mixed signals. That messes up a child...I should know. His mother babied and his father beat him. Its better to be beaten by both then to be in those situations.
